The weights required for my 7mm wetsuit is going to rival the price of the wetsuit. So, I'm looking for a way to make a weight-belt. I have an idea of what I want to do. But, any suggestions or even offers are welcome.

Do you mean you want to mold your own lead weights?
Lots of designs out there - what do you have in mind?

The most important part of a weight belt is the quick release buckle, dont chince out on that as it is a major safety feature.

That being said your going to find that it is a wonderful thing having a weight belt that is comfortable, especially when using the weight needed for a 7mm suite. I would suggest a rubber belt if you have access to them, they tend to stay put better than a nylon belt.

I had planned on cutting up a steel plate(1-1/2" thick) and making little pouches/holsters for them. But, I decided to go with molding my own weights.

Not sure if this is available today, but I've collected old balancing weights off automobile tires, Melt'em down and skim off the steel. At 16 and no money, I converted an old WWII ammo belt + tire weights(not melted) to a weight belt. Worked fine, but lots of drag.
