A friend of mine asks following question :

he regularly trains in subaquatic hockey and spearhunting but he never trains static...

He wants to improve in static....

Can he go on like this or should he train specifically his static ?

His goal : improve by 1mn per year........

What is his static at the moment? I spearfish regularly and I can do 1:30 dives and still not be pushing my limit but I can't do a static more then 2:00. In a couple weeks I hope to have it at 5:00 but to answer your friends question I would say his best bet to improve his static is to train specifically for statics. Spearfishing and underwater hockey will help but not as much as training specifically.
I don't know how much underwater hockey will help as it at a higher intensity then what a static will be but your friend may be used to higher levels of Carbon Dioxide because of it. I am not sure if that is true though.
