Hi everyone,

I'm a new freediver and since there are barely no freediving instructors
where i live, I'm trying to put a training program together by myself.
But does my age (16) has any effects on the training?

Also if anyone has a suggestion for my training program .. I would like to here it.

Sure, the body reacts differently at each age, so the body of a 16 year old athlete will react differently on a training program than at a 50 years old man. Basically you are still in development, so can adapt easier, but in the same time you have to watch out more not do over-train, and not to harm your development. Consulting regularly a good sport doctor is definitely a good precaution, and necessity at any kind of diving.

As for courses, clubs, or instructors in Belgium, it is not true that there are barely none in Belgium. Belgium is a small country but has several excellent freedivers (i.e. Patrick Musimu, Fred Buyle, ...), and there are clubs, and also several instructors. There is also AIDA Belgium, so do not hesitate to contact them for an advice.

I would not advice you any training program. Generally (and especially at your age) it is not wise training freediving alone. Join a club, take a course, or find experimented buddies. There are many experienced freedivers in Belgium, so if you try, you will certainly find some willing to train with you.

Additionally, thanks to the small size of the land, you have also the possibility to take rather easily courses or join clubs in neighbour lands, like France, Netherlands, or Germany.

Some Belgium related links: belgium @ APNEA.cz
And here, you can find some Belgian AIDA instructors (but the list is certainly not complete): Apnea mania

Hey man thanx for all the information. I know patrick musimu and i know that we have several good freedivers in belgium. But I've been looking for over a week now on the internet to find any courses. Just can't find any but I'll start with contacting AIDA
For the instructors.. It's hard to explain but our country is kinda like separeted in to halfs => the french side and the dutch side. And as you can guess most of the instructors live on the french side :s and I live on the dutch side.
But I'll have to look better than.

But anyway don't worry. I always train with a friend. We are well aware of the dangers and risks of freediving. We always warn the lifeguards when we are training in a pool so the can keep an eye extra on us.

Just one more question. I'm training tables now. In the morning and in the afternoon. Is twice a day to much? I must say they help a lot. My best time went from 2:00 to 2:50 in just a couple of days.

I think it won't harm, as long as you do not feel it too tiring, but personally I think that doing a less frequent but more intensive session of about an hour, including several exercises may be more efficient. I have many of such exercises, and even entire hour sessions, listed in the database of the Apnea Training Manager software.

Hi I started freediving even earlier than you and what can I see is that Excess of cortisol in your a(a sign of apnea burn out)sucks I advise you to not train more than 3 times a week and this a way better than trainig 7 days believe me, what you can do is follow trux advise and found others to keeps things interesting anyway training is never a substitute of fun relaxed freediving :t

although I must say that aging is not all that bad to apnea, with agigng you also lower your metabolism look at hebert nitich in his 38 and to many other freedivers natalia molchanova, trux, guy brew , etc they are not the youngest people in the world but htey have an advantage in realation with 20 year old who eats like 3000 calories a day having the "carburator" always tunned to the max
