Does SCUBA spoil the fun of APNEA and Freediving?

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Don't do it, I saw The Big Blue! Danger! :P

Obviously it's just a movie and I could be wrong but I think the bit about his father and the diving accident is true. Anyway even if it isn't the statistics about DCS related injuries in places like Kalymnos were truly shocking (and probably in the Philippines etc).

But otherwise, it's all about the big blue lol

I'm cautious..... But ya I agree I think it will be really loud, I don't think you'll neighbor will like you very much.... But I do think it would be neat to use (after training) with friends who aren't into free diving, but love the water

You should invest your time into getting your friends into freediving instead ;-)

I guess my question is.... have any of you dived before? what do you enjoy more and why?[/QUOTE]

I spearfish / freedive and SCUBA dive; I enjoy both. Each has its own merits and drawbacks, you just have to apply them to the diving you want to do for that day.

SCUBA is great for deep wrecks and reefs, and I enjoy having a bimble around shallow marks, scouting out the ground for caves, holes and lobster lairs. I did a fair bit of SCUBA diving this year, and when I went back to freediving, it was great to get rid of the extra kit and feel natural in the water again.

I've definatly found the fitness you get from freediving, as well as the breathing control, mind-set and the ability the be totally comfortable in the water makes you a much better SCUBA diver than the average person. I'm starting my Trimix course this week; twinset, two deco bottles, drysuit, four sets of regs.....SCUBA is not cheap!

But, to throw on the spearo suit, on a sunny afternoon, with some mates in the water with you, is one of the most fun, relaxing things out there. If I had to give one up, no contest. I'll take the one that needs the mono-fin :).

Does anybody know how deep the divers in the Blue Planet video are going? I would've thought they'd need to be down a VERY long time to get much nitrogen at the depths a hookah does. Then again that's not really a hookah it's more of a terrifying jerry-rigged aquarium tubing death machine yes?
