Had a great dive on Sunday while a certain fluffchucker was resting on his settee, couldn’t believe the conditions, even with the wind blowing the sea was almost flat. Vis was patchy though with ranges from 5-6 meters out in the open and slightly deeper water down to nothing at all up against bits of structure.
Not a lot of fish about with only Flounder taken but really good to have a swim around when all you think you’re going to get is a quick dip in brown water and a cup of coffee after.

Not proper winter yet, the sea needs to drop down to 6c for the Kelly Kettle to be whipped out!!
I was only on the settee building up my strength to venture out later, I too found good vis and a 4lb bass!!
Anybody out there fancy an evening night dive on Sunday evening? Thinking of somewhere in West Dorset - forecast is looking good at the mo. Got a new torch and can't wait to try it out!
Went out on the luxury speed boat with Nobby. waves smashing over the top, soon filled us, so promptly spun the beast around and headed for a back up spot within the harbour.
Vis was fairly good at 4 meters, loads of pollack some gars and bass Nobby managed a bass and pollack, I managed a pollack. then headed back in the sunshine drinking champagne from the mini bar.
Got out at lunch said goodbye to nobby and the cruise liner, then jumped back in for a quick bottom dweller hunt. Managed to fill my bag fairly quickly, shot back to the flat and cooked them up. had a few hours rest then walked down to the cove; jumped in for an hour before dark. Vis was not that great about 1-3 and the light was fading fast so just stuck around the pipe diving to around 6 meters, managed 1 loan mullet as I was getting out.

Visrep. Just had a walk along the west cliff of Portland. The sea is looking good, calm, bright blue and the visibility is looking good from the surface. If I didn't have to go to work soon I'd be going in.

Visrep2, I can confirm it is more than good enough for hunting - nice and quite also not many people about
Fished chesil yesterday eve (rod and line) and it was a beautiful evening down there. Not a lot happening but I managed to catch a bass on live mackerel which was a first for me. The fish was just over 4 lbs and a real autumn fish - deep bodied and the head looked small, almost like a farmed fish. Interestingly we saw a large fish jump as the sun was setting, maybe 50 yds off shore. It was a good fish too judging by the splash. No amount of lure chucking could buy a take so I'll settle for giant Tarpon!
How did you get on today Podge? The vis looked pretty superb down at ferrybridge earlier.

Vis was ok with 4 or 5 meters out on the sand patches and falling to 3 meters in closer and over the reefs.
Plenty of Pollock about and I was half tempted with a few of them but in the end left them alone. Not much else though, no Bass or even Mullet about and with the sever lack of Plaice turned a mornings spearing into a pleasant morning swim.
Anybody seeing much along the Purbecks in the way of flatfish?

I seem to be developing an inability to take close shots. I was swimming across the sand in about 1.5m of water when a huuuuuuge bass swam towards me very slowly, head-on. I waited, aimed at the middle of the head, pulled the trigger when it was literally 1m away...and missed! :vangry
Still, excellent dive and quite a lot of fish seen, including one very very large squid which surprised me so much that I couldn't think straight to take a shot. They really are incredible creatures - like a massive alien looming out of the darkness.

Ben: John saw a huge fish jumping earlier in the day - maybe the bonito are in!!
Podge: Glad I didn't go to my usual spot then, instead I dived off the rock early doors and came home with a 4lb bass and a mullet (lots about, but not carrying those back up the cliff!!)

Got out saturday for a beautiful day on the water, sun was shining and water moderatly flat. Managed to hit a few spots around the portland area and ended up with Bass Mullet and Triggers. So many Mullet about it was unbelievable....if only Mullet were Bass! Also hit a nice size Cod about 10lb which tore off due to my hesitant and poor shot, this was first cod for me who was just sitting in the kelp at 16m. At this point the day was coming to an end I had a massive cramp in my right hamstring which scared the bejesus out of me as I was just pushing off the bottom at 14m, anyways made it back to the surface and decided to call it a day! Mr Cod I will return
Trigger fish for dinner last night which was fantastic fried with buttered mushrooms, nice and simple but great to eat just like tuna steak! At least it'll have to surfice untill I encouter Mr Bonito!!:t

When I was diving last night I suddenly started hearing a spooky knocking noise which I traced back to my right fin. I couldn't see anything there but it felt like something trying to nibble my fin as I was swimming along.
Then suddenly it stopped and my foot felt weird. I looked down to find... half a fin blade! My fins are 10 years old now and this one finally snapped in half.
So does anyone know where I can buy Sporasub H. Dessault fin blades?

Hi I am new to spearfishing this year. I was out on the Purbecks on Sunday. I was at Ringstead in the morning but had terrible pain in a tooth at five meters. Not had this before and been deeper than this. I had one pollack and got out. Went to Sandford and saw nothing. Then went to Durlestone, saw loads of Pollack and got two more. Met two other spearos there who had quite a few Pollack between them. I saw no Bass, Mullet or flatfish but had a good day apart from the tooth.
