Oh, that's a bummer scoob. Agree, the only reasonable thing for speerolee to do is to stay out the water until you are healed. To help with you predicament, you could let me know all the spots you normally visit and I could keep an eye on them for you.

I am all heart. :)

Gutted mate.. At least its not perforated, but just take it easy, like I said earlier perforated is a pig and takes longer to heal and I am partly deaf in my left ear to this day thanks to mine!

As Matt said above we had a nice walk :head down a goat path (I don't make a good goat!) Followed by a nice swim, vis varied from cant see my gun to a milky 4-6m. We had decided before what guns to take, i took an 80 Matt a 90, close in around the stringweed both were too big but we swam out of the bay and into deeper water and all was well again. I dived a little further out than Matt for the majority of the time, the fish seemed to be firmly routed in the 6m depth bracket and I saw clouds of Pollack all about 2lb with one solitary one of about 5lb hiding on the back of the shoal. The shoal stayed with me for the whole dive coming in on every drop but the bigger one refused to come into range of the 80. If I had taken the 100 I left in the car he would of been in that nights fish pie!
Other than that I had a visit from numerous solitary bass. All again around the 2lb range, and therefore below of my self imposed size limit, all in I imagine I saw 20 bass but all solitary (Either that or one bass who was really inquisitive!) I did have one encounter worthy of note. I dropped down a tad deeper hoping for something more substantial to show up and was rewarded with the normal and ever present Pollack, looking left just before I left the bottom I caught sight of a tail leaving then as I looked forward again there was a good sized (8lb?) bass sat directly in line with the gun. Range was pushing it but it was well lined up so I took the shot only to see the spear stop before it even got close.. DAMN I needed the 100! Needless to say the bass did a disappearing act and despite numerous drops didn't reappear.
With the wind now strong and a long walk ahead we headed back into the bay, on route I spent a while trying to tempt a lobster into grasping range but failing completely.. he was keen to come out of his hole but not when I was around, this led to lots of hiding behind a rock waiting for him to come out before diving over the top and trying to grab him before he darted back in. I eventually conceded defeat after about 10 failed attempts and left him to gain a few more pounds.
All in all a pleasant dive with plenty of fish life and scenery. Even spotted an ammonite (sp?) about 3ft across in a rock on the swim up to the shore.. just a shame there were no fish coming in with us. Mind you after trekking back up the hill I am glad I wasn't lugging fish as well!
Roll on the next dive and perhaps some more fish..

Lee.. give me a buzz and I will be glad to keep you company while Matt is out of action!

It hasn't perforated yet but could still split due to the pressure build up. So looks like I'm out of the water for a couple of weeks....... Gutted
Noooooo !!
Sorry to hear it :( after a week out of the water with perfect conditions, i can commisserate. Maybe use the time to refine your gear, do the diy at home and be better than ever when you get back in... :)

Yea I've already got plans to build another gun out of bits I've got lying around and double band another gun. Plus I will continue with the co2 tables I've been doing so hopefully I'll be ready for action as soon as I'm all fixed

In at 05.30am an two nice bass, viz clear at 4/5m. Medium swell from SW so changed dive location, My oldest lad got a big dogfish and a nice pollack with his new Cressi Geronimo. Out at 08.00 for a big breakfast that the Aqua hotel, So looks like a fish curry is in the makings for tea. Hope this wind stays down this next three weeks as off for my leave.

So went for a dive with joe yesterday. Had a long walk following a goats track down a steep hill and then went for a long swim. I saw a couple of small bass, mullet and a large shoal of pollock with the biggest being around the 2lb mark. Was amazing to watch them and a large wrasse coming in to see what I was. On the way back in I looked down and saw a bass around the 5lb mark, just as I shot it decided to move its head sideways avoiding my spear. So diving out a bit deeper (around the 7m mark) I couldn't equalise my right ear, until suddenly a loud pop followed by a squeezing noise.

After the long swim and uphill walk I got home and felt like I had been on the juice. The room was spinning I felt very nauseaus and my ear was throbbing. The same feelings all of today. Went to hospital to get it looked at and it turns out I've blown mucus and blood against my eardrum. It hasn't perforated yet but could still split due to the pressure build up. Unlucky matey, I feel your pain, literally/physically. I did something similar a while back, but not as serious. I got the squealing ear bit. I still have the odd problems equalising my right ear every now & then, what sorts it out is a good blow out, meaning I move mask off a bit & clear my left & then my right sides of the old schnozz. Perhaps you may have to start using ear plugs, like Doc's Proplugs.
I hear neti pots are quite good before a dive if you use them often enough, perhaps a couple of times a week. Basically a salt rinse solution for the nose, which clears out the mucus & the like. Just google neti pots, lots for sale on ebay. I have yet to try them out myself.

Just be very careful with the neti pot approach - a few people died last year using them. Nasty.

If the drum is perforated (or there is any risk of it), then putting any kind of liquid in would be a serious no no. I'd take it easy - you want to get back in when the ear is ready. Given you love your diving so much, you don't want to go and scupper things long term or have ongoing niggles. Stick to what ear doc says I reckon.

They used tap water which had bacteria in it which attacked their brain....
Not very plesant!
Therefore... boil the water, add to salt and let the entire mix cool to room temp before using. boiling water will kill off any nasties :)

Ah right. Thanks for clearing that up for me, I think I'll still give it a miss as it sounds like too much hassle to me. I'm looking at getting some proplugs to try at work (to hopefully speed up recovery) and keep out of the water for two weeks like doc recommended.

Cheers for the advice

Yea totally agree with you mate, not worth the risk of long term damage. Think I'm gunna stay dry for 2 weeks then see how it goes from there (play it by ear my brother says ha ha). Looks like I'll just have to have a massive DIY session and see what I can modify/make for when I'm all fixed and ready to get wet again

No bother, but if yo do it for a week... then stop for a day or two... you will realise how much sh!t actually goes into your nose...it feels mank and then all that gunk gets pushed into your sinus when you dive...

You inhale through your nose, and breath in smog, dust, pollen, bacteria, virus's, excrement, animals etc. yet we never clean it. We eat clean, hygenic food 3 times a day and brush our teeth twice daily... doesn't quite add up...

You should try it... difference is amazing and well worth the effort, you can pick up a plastic neti pot on ebay with a years supply of salt for a fiver. Makes a huge difference in my opinion, espcially if you have a cold or sinus probs.

Had a nice dive with SteveW last night. Tried a spot for an hour before dark, but the viz was fairly awful and only saw a couple of small mullet.

Then headed to another spot after dark to find excellent viz. Hunted there for a couple of hours and came out with 4 good size flounder and a bass.

I also saw a very beautiful fish which I think may have been a gurnard. It had the big head and narrow body of a gurnard, and the fins lit up an amazing electric blue in my torchlight. If I wasn't shining the torch on it the fins just looked normal, but in the light the colours were really vivid. Very pretty.

The nasal area - the bridge of nose to corners of the mouth are sometimes referred to as the "Triangle of Death".

The blood supply to the 'triangle' is 'downstream' from the blood that directly supplies the base of the brain, I think it bypasses the blood-brain barrier.

Basically, an infection in the 'triangle' can lead to an infection in the brain which generally leads to death.

This is why my girlfriend bollocks me when I pluck my nose hairs rofl
