Podge, Yeah a Sunday afternoon might be possible - Sunday mornings I'm always busy with sorting the music at my church (we have a full band that I head up). I'm normally free from about 1:00pm most Sundays.

Right on, so how’s about Sunday 21st December at 1.00 pm for a mince pie, cup of hot chocolate and maybe a bit of a swim?
Brett, Ben, both the John’s (the gentleman and the Pikey), Rick, Bryn if you’re not playing with oil rigs, and anybody else how about it???

arse - the 21st is the only Sunday I can't make at all, Christmas carol service that evening and I have to be there in the afternoon the sound check etc. Is the Sunday before any good, the 14th??

Its all good for me baby.
The 14th it is unless anybody else has any other dates?
If we leave it open to see if the majority can make the 14th if not we’ll have a rethink.

No date's yet, just some nuts and satsumas!!

14th is better for me as well, I'm fishing all day on then 20th and don't think going out again on the 21st would be too healthy!

You lucky devils - 14th is free for me too! Neoprene santa hat required?

See you on the beach...

Bringing those tovely tit(bits) with you John??

Great stuff peeps so shall we say that the 14th is a set date for us all to taste John’s tit…bits.
As for location we’ll have to see which way the wind is blowing, so shall we say, location pending although there’s a fair chance that it’ll be in the sea.

All joking aside, well done mate. This'll be the first good register you've been on.

Well done Podge!!

Anyone have any dive plans over the w/e and not mind a gatecrasher from B'mouth tagging along?

Topping Paul

No diving planned here; went out with Ben last night and got jolly cold for no return. Saw plenty of small flaties and we both agreed we saw the least numbers of fish in any night dive - winter draws on But on the bright side the jap weed is starting to grow

I think it is only fare to say that Podges shop would be a worthy winner but i wonder how many bottles that write-up cost him?

In see lots of reports of small flats at night. What's a "small" flat. You talking under 6-inch sort of palm size or bigger. Min size for plaice is just under 10-inch. Once they reach 12-inch and about a lb or even just under they are well legal and IMHO the best eating fish in the sea. I would rather have five 1lb plaice rather than one 5lb plaice, any day. However there's no denying a big plaice is a fine catch but it's mainly the food value of the little ones I prefer.

As to checking the size I always spread my hand span along their length. My span is 9.5-inches so if that goes from nose to tail root (not tail tip) then They make the grade at about 12-inches overall. Some people mark their gun with min sizes but I find the hand span more convenient.

I used to use the old adage "mines 12-inches but I don't use it as a rule" but what with the temperature dropping I find this less reliable .

OMD: In this weather I was pleased to get to 9-inches!! I'm talking about flounders and plaice ranging from 4 inches to about 9 inches (no sole). I also agree with the little ones tasting sweeter

As I was coming in and just about to stand up a small fish (2-3 inches) went past, at first I thought it was a poor cod, but after a second look I just didn't have a clue what it was; so I followed it and as it turned I could tell it was a diddy bass - ahh cute....!

*side note: I have cut up some neoprene patches to repair the holes in my socks (both heal and ball of the foot), interested to hear - should I stick them on the inside or the outside of the sock (I'm using Evo Stick)

Congratulations Podge! The picture doesn't do you justice though mate, you're much sexier than that you stud-muffin :friday
