I am fitting double 16mm rubbers to my 1.1m rabbi.Has anyone used double rubbers on 1.1 guns and if so are they more powerful than a single 20mm rubber. Also is there any noticable loss of accuracy using double rubbers? Also what length 16mm rubbers are you using for a 1.1 gun?

I have used 2x 16 one a 1.00 and didnt like it, takes to long to load.

I went back to a single 20mm and just shortened it by 1 inch or 2 to get some more grunt.
Its a bit harder to load but you get used to it ( its helps if you have Monkey arms) and the fish dont have as much time to swim away between kills.

The best way is just to experiment and see what suits you.

2 x 16mm definitly deliver more power than a single 20mm. (If my memory is right, its a 1.5:1 ratio) The loss of accuracy will occur if your gun is too light, or your shaft too thin.

I don't have a Rabi, but think they are similar to RA, so you won't get any trouble for the gun part. As for the shaft, if it's at least 6.5mm, you won't have any trouble (a good, staight shaft!)

Twin 16mm rubbers are approaching the limit for any euro type mechanism.
I haven't used twin 16mm on a 1.1m gun tbh it doesn't really make much sense, As crusty says shorten a 20mm to get a bit more grunt.
I think twin 16's are more useful for pushing heavier shafts on longer railguns.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I am still going to try the double 16s on my 1.1 and see how they go.The big advantage along with a bit extra power is that you can slip off one rubber when cave shooting to lessen the power.Anyone got any idea what is the best length to cut the 16mm rubbers to on the 1'1 rabbi?

Leave the 20 on and tuck the 16 underside, if you want to cave hunt swap the 16 for the 20 and vice versa, also if you want to "grunt" and gain extra anatomy:martial use both the 20 and 16. :) my tuppence worth:). its all a game of experementing to get the right thing.

Hiya

2x16mm's is definitely more powerful and is easier to load. However, they take longer to load, cost more to purchase, recoil a bit more (albeit a small bit more) and you will lose some accuracy.

Some Rabitechs are sold with bands that are a bit too long. This is for easier loading. Once you're comfortable loading your gun, shorten your bands by 1cm increments.

You should be able to penetrate a fish at full range with your 1.1m with a single 20mm band. So by fitting 2x16mm's you're not going to be getting extra range, simply more power. But seeing as you already have enough power with a single 20mm for full range shots, the 2x16mm's will achieve nothing.

I've gone through a similar process with my 90cm gun. Fitted 2x16mm's and double wrap line. Didn't work well. Ended up with waaay too many tangles and a very slow reloading time. Reverted back to the single 20mm and single wrap.

Hope that helps!!

Regards
miles

Thanks for the info Miles, I always read your postings on the various forums and always pick up some useful knowledge from them.I have my 20mm rubber cut fairly short but sometimes the spear almost appears slow when fired. It may be that loading in a hurry the spear line is getting under the spear and I haven't noticed it.The rabbis are an excellent gun. Most of our spearing here is in 6m viz and 5-7m depth so I find the 1.1 an excellent length. All the best from Hervey Bay in Queensland

Miles makes very good points about the 20 mm x 2x16 , I would also add that 2x16 will have more lateral drag then 1x20mm. That is another good feature for the single 20, specially if you fish in murky waters

Hi Guys, I have one Freedivers 1.3 railgun rigged with 2 x 16 mm and double wrap and a 1.3 freedivers RG with 1x 20mm for single wrap. I find the 20mm is better for Slightly dirtier water and when i am shooting smaller gamefish ie more of them in the shoal and the 2 x 16mm for bigger stuff of the boat. Although i do shore entries with both. Also use 20mm on my 1.1 Freedivers RG. All this goes down to personal pref though, so best to just try both if that is an option. Borrow one of each from a mate. ; )

Hi guys, I personally use a 1x20mm rubber except on my 130cm. I find it quicker to load, but if you would like to use 2x16mm rubbers may I suggest 65cm/each band on a 110cm. Most bands that come to USA come tied a bit longer due to complaints that they were too hard to load:). Most spears up 120cm to 160cm are 7mm standard, 170cm and 180cm can be 7.5 or 7.9mm

Drop me an email if you have questions.

Cheers,

Hi ALL! thought i'd give my 2cents worth. i too find a 1.1 a good workable length. not much of a fan of longer guns even in blue water. my 1.1 is setup as follows: i use a 6.5mm spear meant for a 1.2m gun (not sure on length as nt at home!), 20mm screw-in rubbers and 16mm single piece rubber with screw-on ends with dyneema. the rig is setup 4 breakaway utilising thin bungy shoelace clipped onto the line release after a single mono wrap. the mono actually runs a bit past the handle and ends in a tuna clip. the length of the mono is such that i can re-attach the tuna clip to the muzzel with a small bungee or dyneema. this allows me to very qikly setup the gun to any spec even in da water. good redundancy too, with double rubbers and screw-on caps (easy to swop around). the gun has a 2mm thick carbon barrel that is foam filled. excalibor trigger, muzzel and spear guide. gun is surprisingly accurate with thin spear and strong bands! very handy for shooting fleeing y'tail and bank fish that only seem to emerge when you ready to come up! i can post some pics in about 2 weeks time if anyone is really keen to see them... the gun is quite powerfull and i managed to dislocate my index finger while being stupid shooting galjoen (shallow water bank fish) in the break-zone. silly boy!

ohh and the benefit of double rubbers on such a shortish gun is only apparent if it's on a break-away rig. imho!
