I made a pair of dry gloves this summer and they work great (I followed the instructions on this thread on Scubaboard.com. : DIY Dry Gloves 1,2,3, - ScubaBoard).

The beauty of the gloves is that I'll be able to insert a hand warmer into them as the temperature drops this winter. Which got me thinking, what about making dry socks? I have high enough arches that I think I could put a hand warmer under my arch without interfering with my finning. If it worked, my toes could be just as toasty as my fingers.

I done a few google searches, but haven't found any kind of rubber or latex boots/socks that are thin enough or flexible enough to use in a fin. Anyone have any ideas?

Is this what you are looking for? There are several dry socks with seals on the market:

Thanks for the post, DRW. Yes, those photos of the latex socks are just what I'm looking for. If they don't come with seals, I could add my own. And if they come in big enough sizes, I would wear them over my neoprene socks - sort of like galoshes. Do you have a link to the company that sells the latex socks? If not, what words did you use to search? When I used "latex", it took me down the old porn path.

The tops of these latex dry socks are thinner material and shaped to be very narrow-fitting so they seal against the legs at that point. They come in small, medium and large sizes. Here are the pages where the socks are offered for sale online. The first two are UK companies, the third German.

1. Lomo: See "calf-fitting dry socks" at:

Neoprene wet suit boots, shoes and socks.

"Designed for wearing with drysuits using ankle seals or just to keep feet dry with wetsuit. A,B,C - Dimensions when flat A=Calf measurement B=Foot length C=Sock Height Small A=51, B=240, C=380 Medium A=54, B=275, C=380 Large A=57, B=310, C=380 Latex Rubber"

2. Wessex Watersports

Wessex Watersports

"Latex socks incorporating ankle seals to use with insulating socks to choice S, M, L equivalent to foot sizes 5-7, 7-9, 9-11". For equivalent US shoe sizing, as a general rule, add 1 to this UK sizing.

3. Dry Fashion

Neopren-Schuhe

Barts Water Sports, an American supplier, may stock sealed latex socks:

There are also several American sources of latex dry socks that come without seals and are designed to be glued on to a dry suit, e.g. NRS Latex Drysocks at

NRS Latex Drysocks

or in your home state,

Alaska Raft and Kayak Catalog

If you want to search further yourself, try Googling with "dry socks" or "latex drysocks".
