Hey there! I'm new to the forum but I have been practicing my dry statics for a while now. I am totally a newbie and haven't done hardly any actual diving yet. I don't usually have access to a pool so my breath hold practice is all dry. This is my current routine. First, I breathe up and try to relax until I feel ready (about four minutes). I breathe in for 5sec, hold for 3, and exhale for 8 in cycles and don't hyperventilate at the end. For my final breath I exhale deeply, then inhale deeply from the chest and belly until full. I usually pack about five times then relax. Contractions and a loss of relaxation often end my hold. I am focused on holding for three minutes and beyond but for now my best is 2:30. This being said, I can normally get about two minutes. I usually lay on my bed and do three holds at a time whenever I am feeling like it. Sometimes I will to a CO2 table. I am looking for advice that I can use to break the three minute barrier and ultimately help me when I start doing some more diving. Any help is appreciated and have a great day!

hi i have just started aswell the first session i tryed was like 1,30 tryed again then like 2,00 and then did a 2,30. i then tryed a couple days later and whilst trying i looked at my watch when the contractions started at 2,45 and managed to hold till 3 mins. i then tryed again and reached a 3,28. now tonight i tryed again and got a 3,50. now all of the breath holds until tonight i did on as bigger lung full of air as i could manage and always tryed concentrating on keeping my heart rate low and not thinking of anything, now tonight i only took about a 75% lung of air if that and didnt worry bout trying to keep heart rate low and wasnt trying to not think of anything i mearly lay there thinking thisis actually a nice feeling and i dont care that my heart if racing and i just pictured a stary sky, now this time when i looked at my watch because the contractions started it had already gone past 3,30.... now im thinking i was wasting more energy and 02 by thinking strenuosly about lowering my heart and by physically holding in such a big breath, may be worth a thought.. Plus i'm kind of just excited that i managed a 3,50 like the fourth time i have tryed and had to tell someone good luck to you

I'm a newbie as well, practising dry static for few months now. I had a problem with concentration as well and was aborting my holds often even before contractions started. I did a foundation course which gave me few tips such as closing my eyes during the hold. If your thoughts keep wondering around causing lost of concentration try follow a little story in your head. I've tried a lot of thing, including doing math but it didn't do much of improvement. I know some people listen to the music while holding the breath (dry) but for me it gives a "time clue", especially if you know the song well.

I have also seen improvement from "structuring" my static training: I've created a little plan so I could perform both O2 and CO2 tables and take a note of results and monitor the progress. I started with 2 o2 tables a week and 2 co2. The biggest improvement for me was from co2 tables so, recently, following advice I've received on this forum I started to focus more on co2 tables.

Also, I started to see improvement once I stopped chasing "personal records" and simply focus on my training. I guess you can also improve your relaxation methods, probably your breathing etc, so I bet improvement will come.

tables are good..
also waling apneea, but within sfatey limits
i don't like to do dry apneea [in fact i hate dry apneea] unfortunately it's the necesarry evil :p
my pb is 3:20' but since last week i was a total smoker [about 20 tig /day]
today i allready have a week without cigarettes and i feel alot better
now...
when i do static in the pool, my first atempt is under one minute :d
the second is arround 2'
and the third is arround 2:30'-2:40'
i keep the eyes closed in the first part, but somwhere after 2' i open them and try to look for something interesting on the pool walls:p
when the contractions becames nasty, i close the eyes again...
