hi

I have a 90 cm Cressi Comanche gun

It comes with a stock 16mm threaded band

I feel the power is lacking and that I am not getting the most range I could be from this gun

I want to add an additional 18mm rubber to the existing 16 mm

my question is, which one gets loaded first (assuming that i can buy 18 mm thread and 16mm circular or vice versa) ?

I mean, do you load your most powerful (18mm) band on the notch closest to the muzzle or is it the other way round?

Or is there no difference really?

thanks

an educated guess would be that the original rubber goes on the further notch and the new rubber goes on the notch closer to the handle....that way the rubbers do not cross. Besides, I don't think you could bring the original rubber to the closest notch!

I don't think the Comanche's mussel can handle two bands and I don't think the gun was designed with two bands in mind.

Even if you change the muzzle to an after market one, on a 90, I'd say stick to one band. For more power simply upgrade to an 18 or 20 mm band. Only if you find that you really struggle to load the thicker bands would I say look at two 16's.

Also two bands of different diameters aren't really a good idea. Unless you make the thicker one longer, in other words, de-powering it to pull the same as the 16, you will find that the 18 will anyway do most of the work negating most of the 16's pull.

http://www.gommonauti.it/imm/2269/1216377530.jpg is that the muzzle you have? not sure it can take a second band as LS says above...

in genera, you can load more than 1 band onto each notch - assuming you have dyneema wishbones not metal ones! but perhaps better to use 2 notches, depending on band length/power.

I think it is better to try and balance the power evenly between the bands otherwise as landshark says, you will be working one band more than the other.

Also, lots of people think that the gun manfacturers balance the gun so that the shaft/band combination is best suited for accuracy and power. Personally i have double-banded all my guns well except my riffe which has 3...

yes the muzzle is the one in the picture......sorry for the question thats coming out of inexperience why would you say it wouldnt handle 2 rubber bands?

anyways I originally asked the question basically was because i was thinking if you have 2 different diameters one would be working while the other will be just "idling".....but then again isnt that the case as well when you have the same diameter sitting at 2 different notches (one will be pulled more than the other)?

I dont know, I wonder if theres a scientific way of thinking about it

in all cases, my digging revealed that as you guys said, most people would agree that 2 x 16mm or one 18 or 20 mm is the most appropriate setup for this gun

thank u guys for taking the time to reply and give your opinion

You will usually find that when a muzzle is able to handle multiple bands you should be able to see it in the design. For example in this Rob Allen muzzle it is clear to see that a second band can be added.

The bottom hole in the Comanche mussel is too big and not shaped in any way to indicate that it would correctly guide the band to the back end of the gun. Also the edges seem too hard and will end up damaging the rubber where it stretches over it. On a clipped / though muzzle the hole is small enough to grip the band keeping it in place thus aiding in loading. A feature of the Comanche's mussel is it allows the band to sit at the same horizontal level as the spear which should aid in accuracy. Another thing, although I guess it should be possible, I'm yet to see a hybrid muzzle with a mixture of threaded and clipped / though bands.

I don't know of any calculation or formula that will give absolute figures. Cressi could possibly give you some stats on this but I think that are just too many variables that will come into play when trying to do this across all guns. Even things such as the type of rubber the bands are made of will influence shooting power. What I do know, there is a very big difference between 16, 18 and 20 mm bands. Do yourself a favour and go and load a gun with a 20mm band, I think you will find it considerably harder to load.

Sorry, I thought it would be clear that I'm referring to the strength of the band compared to another band diameter, not the strength of the individual loading the band.

That however begs the question, does loading a 20 feel the same as loading 16 to you?

take care bro because the comanche trigger mechanism may not be strong enough to handle the dual bands 16 and 18 since it wasnt made originally to handle such power , this may cause that ur gun might fire by itself.
also its an open muzzle gun " as i remember " the dual bands with such power would have a great effect on your accuracy as well as recoil.

think carefully before taking such step :t

I've received many responses related to safety concerns(trigger mech) and using dual bands on the Comanche

so I think ill drop that idea since im not a big fan of compromising safety

it seems like I said that most people would agree on a single 18mm or 20mm band

on a separate note, any spots you would recommend in zaafarana 3shan ana khalas gebt akhri ma3 el sokhna???

take care and enjoy the summer bro
