i can't believe this - in all the countries i have lived in i have never seen such police service...

Two weeks ago, my fiance' forgot to lock the car door while shopping in a supermarket (covered parking with security). However, his briefcase was taken out of his car, containing laptop, digital camera, PDA, 2GB sony memory stick, HP calculator, I.D. book, airticket, and all his work papers...

We called the police and they came immediately, and finger printed the car straight away, took a report etc. They saw some guys on teh security camera but it was too blurred to identify faces.

we replaced the laptop and we really p1ssd off about the other stuff....

anyway... 3 days ago the police called. A pawn shop called the police as a guy came in there selling a memory stick and an HP calculator, they got suspicious. They kept bargaining with him while the assistant called the police.

The guy was arrested, carrying my fiance's briefcase (it has wheels), FULL of other stolen items... sunglasses, wallets, even a PADI cert card rofl ...

We have recovered all the work papers, I.D. book and airticket... (the C.I.D. will keep it for a while)... and the calculator and Memory Stick. The police have reassured us that now they have the theif in custody, they will find the laptop and the other items.

god knows what they will do to him... the chief's words, in a very serious tone "don't worry, we have him here now, so we will get the missing items".

i would hate to be a theif caught in this country... well done to the Dubai police... i have never seen police make such a serious effort to recover stolen items, in a city of 30million people. :thankyou

GLAD TO HEAR IT!!,

I was not so fortunate in the US when all of my stuff was stolen. They broke into my truck after I got home from a weekend of deer hunting and stole about 1000 dollars worth of stuff including knives, binoculars, spotting scope, etc., etc., etc, and then they caught the guy a week later with my back pack on. Well to make a long story short I got the back pack back but nothing else. He was fined the ammount of the stolen property but of course a low life scum like him will never have any money to pay us back so it is as good as gone. Not to mention they LET HIM GO!!! After a slap on the wrist and a SMALL fine!

I wish we had some Dubai police here to retrain some of our officers.

But since we have the guys name and address (like he'll ever be there) maybe I should go and have a meeting with the guy to straighten some things out. They say you can't get blood from a turnip but you sure as hell can make em scream while trying!

God help him more like rofl Oh yes you'll get it all back now
As the old saying goes "Dont mess with my PADI card!"

you may have to start using their methods... or better still.. the saudi arabian methods.. but start small... by chopping off a couple of those nimble fingers... :vangry

what annoys me is how they think they have the right to your stuff... and just take it!!!

Wow. It's great to hear that there are police who actually do their jobs. My sister and I were in a traffic collision in December, and the lady didn't even get a ticket :hmm. It was absolutely her fault. Then, a couple of months ago, one of cars was stolen, and the police didn't even show up to take a report. They called and took the report over the phone. The car was recovered, but by a different police force. So much for good service by the Fresno Police Department :vangry.

My dear sans< oh yes it nice when the police catch the crooks and you arent one of them, but take it from me and speaking out of experience (rencent too) you dont want to get caught by the Dubai police driving drunk or being drunk in public :friday

also, the cameras in City Center Dubai really suck, my friends car got hit in there and they couldnt even read the licence plates int he video

No Amp, yo see in Dubai, even if you arent the one driving, but happen to be drunk in a car, and the driver is drunk too, or has even the faintest smell of alcohol, you all will spend the night in jail, and probably the next morning, or even the entire weekend, till saturday when the public prosecutor decides to come in an work. They really mean 0 tolerance when they say 0 tolerance (at least for other arabs)

Good for them. a night in the slammer and maybe a little man-on-man love'n without consent from "big Abdul" might make would be drunk drivers think twice.

Glad to hear they are on the ball sara! Unfortunately you can't expect the same over our way :) Our cops have trouble finding your house !!! As for fingerprinting hmm... I am still waiting for the police to process the court case to get my money out of being forced off the road (and flipping my landrover 4 times) last August!!!!!!! The court hasn't even got the papers from the police yet.

mishu1984,

It sounds to me like you need to move to Nevada. . . It is legal to drink while driving (as long as your not drunk). :duh Although it may be legal there it may not be right (so Amp don't rake me over the coals for this one.)
