The cape town guys have an active thread so I thaught I would try get one going for Durban. dive reports pics ect.

Me first Me first

well I had what felt like an extreemly long day at work today so as is the norm I thaught I need to get in the water (Did I not mention I am adicted to the sea sailing surfing diving as long as im in or on the water)

So I loged into weather sa and checked the vis report 3-4m at ansteys (the closest beach to my house ) great so dive it is. So I donned my new wetsuit and grabed my gun and dive bag get down there check it out ye can prety much see though the waves get in the water can hardly see the end of my arm so I fuiger head to backline out of the surf zone and away from the surfers ( dont whant to be tempted to hunt me a new board ;).
Wasent much beter about 1.5-2m vis but not a fish in sight

Did some test fires of the new gun to get used to it recoil loading ect. then headed back in.

Headed out again in the shallows around the pipe and picked up a few kilos of lead, going to need some more weight on the belt for the new suit ( this is my first time ever with a wet suit dived my whole life so far with baggies and a rash vest) btw does anyone know where I can get a weight mold in dbn I made a wood one for my current weights but It only lasted just long enough to make the set Ive got.

anyway had fun got some plunder even if it wasn't fishy.

Hi,

I'm currently staying in the Amanzimtoti/Durban area and am wanting to start spearfishing again. I'm looking for a dive buddy or someone that can show me some local diving spots as I am new to the area and cant wait to test my new RA gun!!

Cheers

You okes arent allowed to shoot fish bigger than us! we got an understanding?! haha only joking man, nice to see another SA thread, definately gna be following it!
good luck boys!

Looking for someone to go spearing with? A couple of us are going down the coast on Sunday, probably to the Anerly area, if you'd like to join us. We'll be meeting at the UKZN swimming pool and going from there but I'm sure we can make a plan to hook up somewhere along the way for those already down the coast.... Nothing sucks more than wanting to dive but having nobody to go with :(

We're fairly new to the sport but have found or been shown a couple of great spots down the South Coast.. There's also some great diving off Bluff. I shot my first (and so far only ) fish at Garvies. What a great spot!! No, not just because I managed to shoot something there! There were plenty of bugs down there too ... I'm really good at spotting them, just haven't overcome the fear of sticking my hand in a hole and getting bitten.

Also, we're hosting a spearfishing course in July (cos man we have a lot to learn!!) and one of the topics covered is dive sites along the coast. It will involve a drive along the coast to look at the spots and entry/exit points and other things to consider. We'll have Rob Allen and Jeremy Williams who have plenty years of experience do the course and show the spots.

Ahhhh I wanted to be first

Hey Mupwi

You need to be real careful when melting lead, pour it into a moist wood/sand mould and it will explode in your face, also the fumes are mega toxic, it should be done with a mask and preferable outdoors.

I know.........

Re: Cape town Guy

hehehehe i dont know if you guys shoot the bigger fish but it looks you sure get eaten by bigger"fish"

I'm keen for some spearing in durban(north and south coast). I'm staying in durban for years now but only started spearing the beginning of the year, so still learning alot!
Shot a couple of fish of Garvies as well !! Nice spot.
At the moment I'm usually hanging at Ballito, but don't know the reefs that well.

You can join us at our club nights at the university of kwazulu natal, every thursday from 6pm for a braai and to plan dives alternatively call email me at rangerbob@absamail.co.za and we will try and hook you up with some of our dives.

Hi RangerBob

We hooked up with you guys during the course that Jeremy from RA held a few weeks ago. We are in the process of planning another trip down from Jhb towards the middle/end of August. Do you guys have anything planned for the weekends around that time? Would we great if we can hook up again.

Cheers
Corneil

Howzit Ya we have been spearing almost every weekend and will continue as long as work and weather allows. We have a SCUBA course the last weekend of August, so mid august or first week sept is good. Let me know what suits you. If you plan to do boat dives, the boat works out at R1000 a day plus petrol and can take 6 - 8 comfortably, although not all can dive at once for daftey reasons, so we normally do 4 up for down then swap over, which also allows for recovery time. Shore entries are no problem, if you prefer. We can also possibly look at spearing at Sodwana (with boat) 28/29 Aug or 1 & 2 sept as I can go up early or come back two days after the course is complete to take you guys out.

Contact me at rangerbob@absamail.co.za and we can make the neccessary plans.

How was the weekend diving mine was disastrous went to dive umglanga on Sunday and all I got was a broken fin no I didn't find it It was my own fin that broke viz probably less than a meter. on a positive note I got quite a bit of work done on a new weight mold so hopefully I can start popping those out soon.
