I am new to freediving, I can do STA 5.00, hoever I have a problem with DYN, I looked at the other people's results and most who can do 5.00 in STA do 100 + DYN no fins, I hardly do 50 meters, I guess I do something wrong, I have no experience whatsoever any advice?

Find a buddy who is experienced in DYN and DNF. He will teach u how. Its just a matter of time and trainning. Great results comes in few months of trainning.

thanks, the problem is that in the place where I live is very hard to find anyone who freedives. I think the one of the rerason might be that the pool is relativeley shallow and I did not do DYN with weights so I was struggling with " balooning". I also do not know what training should I practise...

There is a rather big freediving community in Michingan and surroundings, with many of DB members. They use to organize trips, meetings, common trainings, and courses. Just use the search function here on the forum, and I am sure you'll find someone close to you enough to train with. If not, post a video of yourself swimming DYN, so that we can advise you better. Check also other posts in the DYN training subforum - there are many similar threads, so you will find many fitting advices there too.

50m with just speedo's and no weight is tough! With the right gear (slick suit + lead) and training it will feel so much nicer, and you'll go tons further.

That's interesting Azapa. How much difference does the kit make?

I find with DNF with shorts and no weights I prefer not to take a full breath (to avoid being too bouyant and struggling to stay down), but then I have to come up sooner.

hmm, i would say 50m with speedos and no weight (yes, i can only take half a lung at of air to avoid cork effect) is about as hard as 80 with kit on. A big% difference! Thats just me though, I still have a crap style.

My advice is that first you have to spend some time in the pool to balance your boyancy. This should be done wearing a nice thin suit (0.5mm or 1mm is perfect). Find EXACTLY how much weight do you want in order to be neutral in the water. The best test is to take your full breath (and pack if you take pack) and give a good kick off the wall (simulate the start of a dnf attempt) and stay unmoved until almost stop. You should be almost neutral or a very little positive boyant.

You have to find the right combination to use in your weight i.e. some lead on the neck and some on the waist or all the kilos on your waist or all kilos on your neck. Make a neck weight for that. I use only neck weight because this is the way I have good and straight stability during the glide.

Finding the right weight to use under always the same conditions (last inhalation and wetsuit) is a MUST. You have to stay some cm below the surface but not to close to the bottom as you need space under your body. The perfect is to stay exactly in the middle between surface and bottom.

My personal best in static is only 4:05 and I have managed to do a nice 100m DNF which for the time being am well satisfied.

After you balance your boyancy you can start trainning. Take a kickboard and train your kick. Do a lot of 50m. Train your breaststroke. Do a lot of 50m. Do a lot of 50m dnf on empty lungs. Do a lot of 50m and train your technique. Observe your glide and find the right technique for you. Take a video and watch your self. This way you can see what you are doing wrong and correct it.

A nice trainning pattern is this:

10 breaths, do 25m dnf
9 breath, do 25m dnf
8 breath, do 25m dnf
.....go until 2 or 3 breaths and then start the opposite,
4 breaths, do 25m
5 breath, do 25m
upto 10 breaths.

There are many different ways to train. If you make a search on the old threads about dnf you will find gold!

In my opinion the most important is spend time to prepare the right gear for you (wetsuit, weights and full inhalation) in order to have the perfect boyancy. After that the results will come to you.

Remember, don't practice alone! You can lose consciousness in seconds while doing dynamics. You won't get as much warning as when doing statics.

FYI i put an extra 900 grams of weight on last night and dropped to 2 strokes per 25m (my best). I use a 3Kg neck weight and Orca RS1 (old) for training. Without the extra 900 grams I needed 3 strokes. (with speados and googles only I need about 5 at exhale and 8 inhale no packing)

Seems I have a similar problem as msor. My best static is around 5.20, my best DNF around 63 m (only speedos and mask). I don't like weights and suits, but I wonder whether the difference is so big ?!

you need weight and suit for DNF, thats why, read above

thanks again for all your advices, I had no idea that suit and weight make so much difference, I will start look for freediving weights , any good online freediving stores u know about? i will also need a nose clip as well...

look online and here, a neck weight is made from bicycle inner tubes and lead shot. Look for ORCA freediving suits

I dont think suits are that important. Correct weighting though is paramount in dnf and dyn. With correct weighting and improving technique big gains will be made. Unless your super hairy where a suit might help more. :)

I think that a good suit can give you extra 30%. But the most important (besides never free dive alone) is the weight. You spend way too much energy to stay down without it.
