Here's one for everybody into dynamics and monofinning.

What would a good speed (time wise) for a 100m dynamic?

Any thoughts?

Hey DSV,
my times are usually less than 1 metre per second up to 1 metre per second. Any faster and I start to get contractions early which blows it :(
Cheers,

Hey DSV,

Reading the above makes me think I might be going a bit faster then most. I'm pretty sure I usually do 125m in under 2 minutes, so prob 110-120 seconds.

Trying to remember how long it took me to do 100m, think around the 1 min 30 mark, so 90 seconds or so.

I have a funny aproach, to dynamics :- start slow finish fast, similar to what Erik does, but bit different.

I use Bi-fins, and do the first lap at a slow/medium speed, with narrow flutter kick, and arms above head in streamlined position. After the turn around I change to a medium speed dolphin kick, arms by side, then speed up more on the last lap.

I find the slow flutter kick on the first lap really relaxes me and gets my heart rate down, once I start dolphin kicking it's pretty much Anaerobic from there on anyway.

The lactic acid build up is pretty severe at the end. :D

Wait a minute you were talking monofins ?
Well top speed is obviously faster, I would have thought a 'medium pace' with a monofin should be a tad faster then dolphin kicking with Bi-fins.

I know Seb Murat does close to 30 second laps when he does his dynamics. He has done 195m in training. But that's really fast, and he is a bit of a freak, I wouldn't be trying those sort of times.

Still thinking you guys with the Mono's should try speeding up a bit more then 1m/s. Surely that rule can't work equally for Depth diving & Dynamics with Bi fins or Monofins ?!

Specially when you consider a slow dolphin kick with a monofin, is still a lot faster then a slow flutter kick with Bi-fins.

Cheers,
Wal
