East Timor

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
can't speak for the east but the west, around roti and the islands offshore are very very good. In general you'll be in the epicenter of some really ace diving-the only thing to watch out for r dynamited areas-but there's plenty of good stuff. have a blast!
 
I had a good look at a fair bit of the coast between Dilli and Kupang about ten years ago (pre independence) over about a six month period. I got in and snorkelled around whenever I got the chance (I was supposed to be working). At that time you would see schools of sailfish cruising and some pretty pristine reef. Generally the vis depended on the season (rain=generally poor vis) and the geology of the area (limestone/reef good vis, Metamorphics, young soft sediemntary rocks/bentonite seeps poor vis).

Hope you are going there to do some good, Dilli was pretty sad when I was there last.
 
Thanks for the info guys. Talking some people in Dili & they say the country as whole is starting to recover since the troubles. the last 2 years especially has seen a lot of development & the future looks very promising if they can maintain stability.
