Hi all,

Took out my new baby rib the other week and my 8hp Yamaha wouldn't plane it. The rib is 3.2m and weighs about 60-kg I would estimate. I am trying it later today (fingers crossed) with my larger 15hp mariner which has a hydro foil fitted. I think i'm going to take the foil off prior to launch as i think on such a little boat it will make the steering skitish?

What do people think?

I dont see why it would affect steering tribs. better off leaving them on if its difficult to get on a plane...... 15hp should just about get a 3.2 up. good luck with it.

The rib was fine with the wife and I on board but the trouble came when my heavier spearo buddy got in - it wouldn't plane then. Great:confused:.

I think the foil might lift the rear and get the heavier load up and moving.

Will give it a go anyway because if I can't use it spearing then it will have to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

more thoughts welcome though guys

Get your self a proper Spearo boat. Mines up for sale soon with engine and trailer.

The pockets aren't so deep at the minute mate. All the shares i'm investing with Pampers!!! Whats wrong with the C Ski then? Thought that was a match made in Devon????????????:inlove

Nice, slightly wider I see!

Anyway, fitting the foil back on tomorrow as my longliner is like a different boat with the foil. As I will be using this engine on both the Orkney and the RIB it makes sense to put the foil back on. Should get me on the plane quicker in the RIB, my research shows but may make the steering a little accentuated. I'll take it easy!!!!

Tribs.

Hi mate,

long time no speak! Haven't been back out since as the littlest Tribble household chores and uni stuff have kept me busy. Add to that the crap viz up our way, its been much easier to push the longliner off the beach and get out. The fins make such a difference on the longliner; they get the front down instantly, she runs a better trim and the fuel economy is much better. the only time they have a negative impact is when i put my mariner into the shallow drive setting with the fins on. Due to the angle and huge surface area the boat is very jittery on the steering front when approaching the beach. Going careful its fine.
