Whilst browsing the Elios website I noticed an option for a "mesh skin" exterior finish on their suits. I wonder if anyone out there has seen or used this allegedly more durable exterior? I am intrigued as I am a fan of old school sharkskin and have been looking for a modern take on this old theme. Cheers, Laz

Hi Lazuli,
I have 3 suits of Elios Meshskin (one 5mm and one 3mm) and I can recommed it to you. It is great suit for freediving as the same for spearfishing. In my free time I work as freediving instructor and this year I have used this suit for 2 months of raff freediving during our courses and this suit is still "alive" in copmare with suits of my colleagues who use smoothskin and still had to repare some sracks. I think this suit is a great compromise betwen smoothskin and lining exterier. Of course the hydrodynamics is a little worse in compare with smoothskin or superskin (free-down) but is much more better than in case of lining.

I consider the Mesk Skin neopren as the best compromis betwen tear resistance and hydrodynamics and the best suits for me now.

I use it for courses of freediving + for recreational freediving + for cassual spearfishing.

Even Elios can choose blue or silver painting... doesn´t look badly

Sounds like a good option. Do you have any pictures? I am curious as to how it makes the suit look.

If you give me email I can sent you a few my pictures of this suit "in action" ..

Ok... I have never use this site for pictures... so hope it will be successfull for the first time :) ...I send you 4 pictures of mine in this suit... I have "pelagos" painting but you can also have silver painting or choose painting only on some parts...

As I said before... from my point of view... the best suit for spearfishing and recreational freediving because of better hydrodynamics then "lining" and better resistance against tears then smoothskin...

But not for beginners ! ...beginners should still prefere long-lasting and the most resistand lining, to learn how to hadle with that...

It looks like smoothskin. I mean, from the pictures I can't tell a difference.

Anyway, I have a Heiwa smoothskin in 3mm Freedown, and I ca safely safe it's very tough. No cuts, nicks or tears so far from my rough usage.

Thanks for the photos. Some cool shots there. If I upgrade to a camo suit in the future I will consider the mesh skin outer instead of nylon. I just need to get more spearo opinions on the best elios camo for UK waters.

You cannot see the difference, becuse the difference is not in painting or design but in material and external surface of neopren. The surface of the external rubber is machined to obtain a thin knurling with a diamond design, thus making it more resistant against cuts and abrasions. Look at the picture to see the difference...

I really consider this suit as a great solution for recreational freediving and spearfishing for experienced freedivers.

Oh, yes yes. I see. Looks great. Would be nice if the suit came in navy blue.
