I've decided to get my 3mm wetsuit from Elios this time, and noticed that Elios has a new "external solution" - Mesh skin
It does sound good, but I'm curious if anyone tried it before.

Thanks,

Nick

Haven't tried it, but it seems like it might be a good option for spearfishing, esp. from a boat. Nylon outers provide good protection from rocks but smooth skin provides faster drying on boat -- so perhaps this a good compromise, offering some/much of the advantages of other two options? (They offer camo too ). The description seems aimed at spearos rather than freedivers.

How does the price compare to other options?

Haven't checked the price yet, was just browsing and looking at options.
And yes, I am going to use it for spearfishing too

That mesh looks similar to the type of material that surf suits had back in the 80's and 90's, I think it is a type of surface hardening. It should be pretty durable, remember the dive suits from the 70's that had that mesh finish?

So has anyone else tried this material? It's on my list of options i've narrowed down to about 8. So many combinations!!

Cheers,
Ben

I nearly went insane picking out my westuit material. I finally just bought the one at the top of the list

It's coming to that :duh

This is only for my 5mm suit for quarry diving too, still have to think about my 3mm for warmer waters.....

Ditto except I went for the one at the bottom (and it is great). [Ecoline - open cell inside, nylon out].

Well, as I've posted prbably 8 zillion times - I got the Black Shadow with superstretch outside and 'new black coating' - I've been diving in water thats as cold as it can get without being a solid and with razor sharp zebra muscles all over everything and the suit is great. (one 1/4inch cut through the nylon on one knee I just found the other day).

I can see where the textured surface might be pretty sturdy - but I'm more comfortable having some fabric. I know I'd have potentially serious rips in my suit now just from some tears I've had on the inside where a toe or finger got caught - the fabric holds it together and keeps those form going through - making it way easier to fix.

I got reply from elios, and unfortunately, the option of mesh outside/open cell inside will be available only by the end of april.

At the moment, they have only "super stretch lining inside".
And since I came to love open cell inside, I either will have to wait or.. maybe will just get nylon outside/open cell inside from diveskin (I have 5mm suit from him and really like it)

Yeah... The Suit is an Open Cell.
