Hey all, has anybody used/bought an endless pool? (endlesspool.com) It looks really cool, but at 18k... so i was just wondering how good those accualy worked, because for a pool that you can swim straight that is so small, i think it might be worth it. A second opinion would be nice before i pay so much :D

heh, and sorry if this is in the wrong place, it seemed like the best

They are suppose to be nice but for me the pool is only 3mi away.12 grand would but a lot of memberships and then you would not still have the weights.

Being a Channel swimmer, I have researched these pools and others. All are far too expensive (around £20,000 upwards to £38,000) if they involve moving the water en mass rather than squirting it through jacuzzi type jet nozzles (around £5000) both sums include the pool from various manufactures. The jets unfortunately provide a rough and noisy water environment and unfortunately you can easily swim off the power band into still water. Neither option is particularly good for serious surface work and they simply dont work for dynamic.

Hovwever, I do recommend (although untried) the endless pool motor without their kit pool. These motors have just come onto the American market seperately from the kit. Cost around £3750. You could Retro fit into an existing swimming pool pretty well by hanging it over the poolside. This way you dont have the bench type clutter (which you will kick with your mono) laying around the inside bottom and sides of the kit pool. Also the £20,000 model is too short, remember you may be six feet tall, add extended arms, add length of fins, add a couple feet clearance front and back and you will realise you need a longer pool. Also the problem of wake turbulence from surface finning with a mono, you will soon empty the first few inches of pool water out of the pool. I hope to try the motor out soon but expect to be disapointed due to motor noise and also expect it not to work for dynamic fin swimming due to the power band only working down to 2 feet or so.

What has worked for me for many hours of continuous swimming was a simple elastic bungee strapped around my waste and fixed to the poolside. Cost around £15.00 from Arena, or Speedo or some similar swimmer supplies merchant (I cant remember). You swim harder against the pull of the cord and when you slack off you get pulled backwards. Its great being able to swim without reaching the turn.

wow, haydn. I never thought of that, hah, thanks alot. And the bungie is a really great idea. It really is too bad that those pools wouldnt work though, it would be really nice, an endless 10 foot long pool..ahh well

The endless pool seems like an increasingly good idea considering that my ideal public pool, i.e. one devoid of other people, doesn't exist.

Guess I'll never be able to afford one though. :head

The bungie is a great idea. If it's allowed in the pool I'll try it sometime.

Hi Traverse
As far as i know a lot of triatleths use endless polls maybe not at home but in a sports clinic. Some of the sports clinic / swim clinics have cameras built in so they record your stroke an show you where you go wrong. Triathlon 220 magazine have a lot of adverts for this type. You may also get to see the endless pool in motion so to speak and see if it would suit you.
Regards Feargus

I have looked at the endless pool product a long time. i finally went to try one out at a strangers home (arranged by endless pools). it was as i thought, maybe just a bit shallow.
I have yet to finish the installation of mine. at 6'4 i dont think i am going to be able to use fins for freestyle. but that doenst matter. if i must use fins, i am sure that i could hug a kickboard and get away with it without kicking anything.
you may be surprised by the numbers of used pools for sale out there. obviously cheaper.
also, contact Endless pools and get on their mailing list. they do promotions and sales. let them know i sent ya!

Endless Pool normally show at the London Triathlon Weekend. This year it's August 5th and 6th. You can take your speedos downthere and try one out and see what you think. They are very helpful and there's nothing like first hand experience of these things. The show is at the Excel Centre which has it's own stop on the Docklands Light Railway.

I was sent a letter from Endless Pools (2 different times) to let me know of a promotion revolving around a triathlon in the area. They offer the "demo" pool at a heavy discount. They also offer new pools at a discount and the chance to save on shipping since they are already sending a pool out there.
