equalisation

I have a problem of deequalising my ears while ascending to the surface.i know that it should deequalise automatically,but it doesn't work with me......Can anyone help about this???

What does it feel like?

If your ears would not equalise on the way up (let the expanding air out) than you would blow your eardrum or make some mess in your inner ear... I guess this is not what happened to you.

This problem is called reverse block - which occurs usually to scuba divers. The ears get blocked during your stay on the bottom (but scuba divers spend much more time down).

To avoid it, do not dive with a cold, if your nose is full or any sinuses relevant medical problems etc..

If you get the reverse block anyway, I would try to open the eustachian tubes - can be done by moving your jaw, a forced yawning or similar movements. But it might not help you at all, as the block can be anywhere in the sinuses and ear tubes. Other than that I guess you are in serious trouble if this happens to you while freediving...

You can try a reverse clear by pinching your nose and swallowing. Do it after exhale. Might help a little.

Or there are ear plugs you can get that equalize for you but keep water out. No idea what there called, try and google diving ear plugs or scuba diving ear plugs.
