I've noticed when I'm inverted (head down, fins up) at the bottom of a 12 foot deep pool, I have trouble equalizing. If I then lay on the bottom of the pool and raise my head (now my head is right side up), I equalize with no problem. What does this mean? I'm using the valsava technique.

thank you in advance

hi,

in a head-down position your heads airspaces are exposed to a greater water pressure than your lungs. therefore you have to make more muscular effort to equalise head-down.

you may want to consider learning the frenzel technique which has quite a few advantages over the valsalva technique.

enjoy,

roland
