I am looking in purchasing my first speargun, i found one that a guy nearby is selling. I havent been able to find out much about the model. Can anyone help? Would this be a good first gun? I would ask the owner, but outside advice is the best. I included photos..

I've used Cressi Sub, Rob Allen and Esclapez guns. My current and favourite is my Imersion Esclapez gun. Built quality is good.

Spares are easily available from Apnea Jersey. apnea_intro

I do have an imersion escalpez like the one u posted in the pic (90cm model). its not that bad... Whats the condition of ur dives? If u are going into cave diving then a 75cm model is the max u would go for... If u are spearing into clean water and u want something to last, then I advise u to go into an Omer gun (if budget allows) such as Omer Cayman HF.

Best regards

Thanks for the reply! I would be spearfishing primarily around the reef and then blue water when experience permits.

Where are you located now?

If you want some intermediate reef/blue water then go for like a 110cm gun like a roballen apex. Those are extremly tough, accurate, and will do the job good...

Thanks again for replying....I will be doing the majority of spearfishing in Hawaii and southern California. I was interested in the above speargun because of the price 100 USD.

You are welcome. The only negative side about this gun is that you can't change much if any damage happens to it... Also its not that tough/accurate but good choice for a beginnner spearo....

Also the escalpez imersion doesn't come with a reel so it might not be a right choice for fish above 20lbs... Also the aluminium barrel is not that thick on the escalpez so do not try to put like very short 20mm bands or 2*16mm bands on a + 100cm gun coz that might make the barrel flex, also im not sure of the trigger mech if it can handle such stress.

I think the escalpez will come with standard hawaian shaft 6mm diameter, and 16mm green bands. You can change the shaft to a 6.5mm or 7mm with 20mm bands for more push.

So in a nutshell, the gun isn't a bad choice for beginning, but offers limited options in spearing.

Best of luck spearing and have safe dives

FYI on the toughness of Imersion guns. Here are a couple of pics of the Pelagic Pro, which is one of the larger carbon, teak, and titanium guns made by Imersion used for bluewater hunting.

:)

You gotta admit, that is a purposeful looking gun :)

I think the Imersion guns are awesome bits of kit but then so are most of the immediate competition!
