Cressi sub euro gun is causing me some problems. When you push the spear into the mech to "lock" it doesn't always secure. Its an easy case to take the trigger and pull it out a bit which secures the spear.

Anyone else suffered from this. Its not a huge problem but a bit of a pain , especially if you are wanting to load quickly. At the end of the season it was forcing me into using my shorter gun as I was finding loading irritating.

Any tips prior to pushing out the pins to access the mech? or if its worth returning to Cressi to service?

I experienced the same problem with my Cressi Comanche 90 cm. I didn't try removing the trigger mechanism and I honestly was afraid that the gun missfire on me while spearing. I just decided to buy a new gun.

Cheers

Wait a minute before throwing it away, Pav. It's a good gun and a value.

Question: did you change the shaft or is it still the original one?
If it's a new shaft, maybe the issue depends on it. In this case it's probably enough to file the shaft's tail (i experienced that with my Comanche and worked it out). Let us know.

Ok, I specify: I lost the orginal shaft and bought a new one which was Cressi too, but for some reason the tail didn' fit into the mech. I tried to reshape the spear's tail with a file and got it working perfectly. Not a universal tip, just a thing that happened to me.

No its the original spear, and gladiator this is also the 900, but expect its a common mech on all the cressi guns.

I also have a 750 cressi so not without a weapon :martial but do prefer the 900 as feel its more accurate and wouldn't want to do without it.

The Cressi distributer for the UK makes it very clear on the web page that they are not interested in faulty products being returned. As it was purchased overseas I havn't the choice of returning to the retailer .

It is bad to hear I just bought a comanche, what type of bands did you use ?
I don't think you should worry (hopefully not): never heard anyone complaining about Comanches before this topic. Of course malfunctions are possible on any large scale product (and even on Wong's, as reported in another thread), but the Comanche is basically well built and I know many enthusiasts of it. I'm sorry for Pav: unlucky pick, hope he'll get it working.

I don't think the choice of Bands is an issue. The mech on my 750 is fine with no problems. The 900 gun mech had given good service until the end of the season ... thats "my" season as I know the south coast crew never stop! rofl

Both the Cressi s45 (16,5mm) and G20 (20mm) are very good bands, powerful and progressive.
Strangelove, just don't try by any chance to fit Omer bands on your new Comanche because they just don't fit in (Cressi screws are incompatible with Omer screws: a strong man can make it with muscular effort, but then what for, risking to damage the muzzle's threads).

I've had the same problem with my Sporasub Aspic. It was a simple case of some sand in the trigger mechanism. I've never seen a comanche, but with the sporasub, I just removed the safety, pushed out the pin, and removed the mechansim. A quick rinsing of the handle housing and the mechanism solved the problem. One hitch though, (at least with the sporasub). There's a spring that tensions the line release and it can flop back and forth when the mechanism out. If it's in the wrong position when you re-assemble, then the line release will not stay in place after the shot, which will also cause the trigger to stay back and prevent the shaft from locking into place.
My money would be on some sand or grit in your trigger mechanism from what you've described though...
Ron.

i've had that problem with my apache 90 but after some years... i recently changed the apache handle for a comanche and it's all good (i want the line release thing).
when it happened i just pulled the trigger in the oposite way to shoting (not squzzing, pull on the opocite direction) and then it was ok..

you could buy a new handle/trigger, im not the expert on fixing triggers, but the handle for cressi is quite inexpensive, maybe 30$ or so... i second what spaghetti said about the omer bands, they just dont fit, neither do the picassos, i use G20's on my comanche 90 and 75 guns, they are great guns... never had a problem with them due to manufacturing errors. please be careful when you dismantle th ehandle from the barrel they are quite tight,.... heres a horror story involving a comanche handle

thanks for the replys.

I today got both my Commanche guns out and compared the mech movement. The "faulty" guns trigger did not return to the same degree as the "good" gun. As has been noted the gun is useable but just requires the trigger mech to be pulled out after locating the spear to secure / click.

Removal of the mech doesn't look easy! A number of pins that would have to be pushed out. It does not look like its made for servicing! I even wonder if after removing the pins if it would be straight forward to reassemble.

I instead treated it like the zips in my kit bag! Forced warm water threw the mech for a a little while, working the mech during this.

The mech is better but not perfect. It locks the spear most of the time but occasionally the mech will not "click". The spring that returns the trigger just doesn't seem as strong as on the "good" gun and occasionally the trigger needs to be "helped", but a lot less frequently than before.

Thanks.
