Diving companies in Dubai .... have clearly stated in interviews with some of my mates, that they only hire Europeans. This was a statement made by the British manager of one of these companies.

I thought that RSA was bad a few years back.. but this is the PITS!!!

My rant for the day.... :rcard

Wow.......where to start with this one if you are refering to the oilfield diving.

If so....

1/ The diving has been done by a real mixed bag of nationals largely Brits,Indians and a few Yanks, however there is a growing contingent of RSA divers willing to do more for less and generally putting a halt to any real progress wherever they go:rcard :rcard :rcard
2/ Any divers willing to work for the pathetic wages/standards that are already paid/offered by these diving companies need their heads checked.:rcard :rcard :rcard
3/It is of no surprise that The Brit manager of one of these companies could come up with a statement like that....I regard that as fairly mild from the calibre of folk that work for them. These people are stuck in a time warp from the 60`s and cannot hack it in a tougher climate.rofl

Please don`t start me.

That would be illegal in the UK. I am surprised a Brit would say that, not least because they generally seem to have little regard for instructors from other european countries. Even within the UK there seem to be 2 different paths PADI vs. BSAC who seem to have little good to say about each other! The less pleasant side of human nature :(.

i am so tempted to put the name of the company!!!

its a commercial diving company. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

i was wondering if an article in the Seven Days would help. A little exposure. Yeah a racist Brit who knows he can get away with here, but there is nowhere to go and complain.

Coward!!!!! :vangry

rofl if its the idiot I think it is not only is he liberal with the truth(very)
but the calibre of diver uses is very low(Euros on the day shift anyway). The usual pay peanuts get monkeys applies here. These boys generally ain`t too bright, inherintly or too deep too long and I wouldn`t let it get me down !!!

Your mates would do well to stay clear of the likes of these cowboys.

That is as polite as I can be !!!!

Saying that...its swings and roundabouts. A friend of mine who has a lot of dealings in Dubai just got back from another business trip where again she was all deflated again for being treated like a second class citizen because of her sex by certain groups ....the same groups that also regard Western men as scum(and thats before taking divers into the equation)

Man, if someone posted that notice in the US he'd be sued by so many different groups, each judgement wouldn't be more than a quarter and that's after having all his equipment, bank accounts, personal effects, false teeth, etc. seized and sold at auction. Pukka sahib, indeed!

To be fair, most countries are far more racist than the UK. Even in the USA, I saw two acts which I believe were rascist & illegal under American law -- one pro-black & one-anti-black -- being carried out sneakily by two major USA corporations, whose products you have undoubtedly used. I have never seen that in the UK. As you point out, it is not illegal where you are -- why is that? "European" is quite vague -- not exactly a single race/colour/belief system... -- are you thinking it was a colour issue, anti-American, Islamic issue or where/how they qualified (which could be an insurance issue)?

In this fellas defence I`m not so sure this may be a case of racism so I would go easy on name and shame.

No offence to your mates but if English isn`t their first language this will be a setback to them offshore trying to get into an English speaking dive team and I can`t see them wanting to get into an Indian dive team on $15 a day ....can you!!!. It is a long standing practice not to mix teams where possible. This is because when the shit hits the fan people revert to their first langusge in most cases. And with all the pensioned off gear in the Gulfs this is a greater likelyhood:)

There has also been a great misstrust of mixed dive teams abroad for many years and many stories of having to duct tape bell partners to the plumbing during a dive so they don`t touch anything rofl

So you can well appreciate your underpaid/poorly supported gulf diver with someone who will work for less constantly at his heels not wanting the added problems.....

There comes a time when everybody says ......enough!!!!

As for sueing........offshore diveing may be different ball game. ....this industry and oil in general revolves around arse covering rofl

As for me....just happy I was given an opportunity to have a dig at riff raff
gulf divers.....Buck your game up you lot!!!

cheers
