Hi everybody I am kinda a beginner in freediving and have only gone to a depth of 37m. This is my first post so I am sorry if I have put it in the wrong area.
Since I can remember I have been having troubles equalization. My left ear is very good and I can equalize that without any effort at all. However my right ear is totally crappy and I have never been able to equalize that with just blowing my nose using the valsalva maneuver. To equalize the right ear I have to blow my nose and swallow at the same time. If I equalize on land in this way both ears pop and the moment i swallow again my left ear depressurizes itself back to normal. My right ear though can stay pressurized for like 10-15 minutes afterwards which isnt very comfortable.
I found an instruction manual on the BTV maneuver and after doing the excersises for a week the equalisation of the right ear became a little better. I think I have a very small eustachian tube and I think this is what´s causing the equalisation problems.
Have anyone had any similar problems and is it possible to get the right ear to work properly, like if I continue to do these excersises? Has anyone heard of surgery of the eustachian tube to get it to open easier? I found a guy in switzerland who says he does laser surgery of the eustachian tube
EUSTACHIAN TUBE INSTITUTE OTO RHINO LARYNGOLOGIE GENEVE - ORL GENEVE (Oto Rhino Laryngologue Genève) :: GENEVA SWITZERLAND ENT - Eustachian Tube Surgery ENT GENEVA -
Has anyone in here done this procedure?

My current plan for better equaliztion involves
# cleaning my nose with saltwater using a yoga nose-bottle every day
# practice the BTV exercises for a month
# staying of dairy products for a month

Sorry if my questions are a little bit chaotic
regards!

Have you tried tilting your head to the left a little while equalizing?
Stretching the neck in the side of the problematic ear can make it easier to equalize that ear...
Have you tried using Frenzel instead of valsalva?
