Eyes open or closed for static

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.

I know this may seem a minor thing but does having your eyes open use more oxygen. i tend to open them during the harder stages. The eys are still working when your eyes are closed, because you can see some light through your eyelids sometimes if its a bright day.

What do you do?
 
I do a combination of both. Once I'm relaxed and centered, I'll slowly open my eyes. Since you need to keep your eyes OPEN during an actual freedive, I try to keep them open, even though it does seem easier with them closed. It's easier to keep the mind blank when all you're seeing is total darkness; harder when you're staring at a white stucco ceiling through your diving mask! However, since total relaxation with the eyes open is the optimal state to be in, it's a worthy goal to strive for.

I also tend to open during the harder stage. Keeping them closed during the initial phase really helps me relax, its like I'm about to go to sleep, up until the contractions kick in.
By keeping the eyes open near the end I can also check if my vision is getting distorted (tunnel vision, loss of color) and it could be a cue to come up, if its not already too late. The last time I had a samba my vision became kind of greyish and blurry near the end of the static.
 
I close my eyes for most of it, maybe open for the harder stage.

Eyes open will take more oxigen.Eyes open have stimulus to focus and to gaze at things, that uses muscles that consume oxigen But I think the main issue here is that your ability to relax is easier with your eyes closed. I recieved some good advice some time ago: close your eyes first when breath holding ,then , when you feel the urge to breath open your eyes an distract with something.I play "The Blue Planet" while I do the O2 CO2 tables!
