Hi all,
I have finally moved house, and now live 20 minutes away from West Bay. Brilliant. I now intend to get back in the water a lot, fully armed with my new suit and a relatively unused gun!
My favourite beach is Eype and I am often down there to go paragliding in the evenings. Is it a reasonable place for spearfishing?
The main thing that concerns me a little is the currents that I have heard about in this area. I have heard that there are some dangerous undercurrents along the Dorset coast. Is there any particular state of tide I should avoid, or any places where it is particularly bad?

Never had any problems with undercurrents spearfishing. Normal tidal currents are a different matter. If you are using a pair of decent fins and don't go out of your comfort zone you will be fine. The tide runs parallel to the beach all along chesil and down to lyme, so no worries. Seen some lovely mackerel shoals at Eype, it's a beautiful place, I'm jealous!

hey

im a local to west bay and there are currents that you need to be slightly weary of if you are tired, but we do call it the eype express so it might be an easy way home for you. i would never say that they are nothing to worry about though because its still there and its still the sea.

ive been doing a few shallow dives around the table rock and pools on the west beach, not really had a look at eype. let me know next time your out.

Good to hear from you, I'd love to meet up to go for a dive. Maybe one evening or at the weekend perhaps? I'll send you a message with my phone number and email address...
