Anyone have experience with footpockets like theese:

Beuchat Mundial
Effesub
Mares Razor

I only tried:

Cressi Gara
Omer Millenium
Picasso Black team
Sporasub H.Dessault

The mares is said to be very confortable and looks very nice in design.

I own Beuchats, Effesubs, and had Sporasub Dessaults. I also have the Sporasub shoes-like footpockets.

At Sporasubs, I did not manage to find a fitting size - one was way too big even with a 5mm sock, and the size under was too small. Beuchats are excellent, and I use them very frequently since about ten years, without noticing any problems of aging. The only problem is that the screws for fixing blades are in a different position than at most other blades. Effesub looked really nice, but the footpocket cracked just 3-4 months after I bought them. Well, it may be because I let them in my car when it was freezing out, but my Beuchats are there permanently, and never complained about it.

The Sporasub shoes are really comfortable, but not at all streamlined.

Thanks Trux

How are the shoesizes compared to normal shoes.

Do you use some socks in your Beuchat footpockets?

I wear shoes 42, the Beuchat footpockets are 41-42, and I can use 5 mm socks. Without socks they feel a little too loose.

I have cressis, Spora Dessaults and Beuchats. The Beuchats are very similar to the Cress'is, just softer. You can wear them barefoot just fine if your foot fits. I prefer the cressis, but that may be personal to my foot. The Sporas are best for me, require booties after no more than one day, are stiffer, but feel better. Of the three, the Cressi's seem the most durable, Sporas least.

Hi, I personally own a pair of cressi gara 200hf and I believe that theirs foot pockets is one of the best.

But if you are looking for the best, I would recomend you to try the C4 right and left anatomic shoe. It also have the possibility to have a millimetric and customised adjustment of the shoe. If you don't want to spend to much money, you can buy the wahoo model, which is very interesting for it's low price and high quality compared to other fins on the market...

Thanks for this interesting thread.

I'm gearing up for my first long-fins and seeing as Ireland is a bit sparse on freedive shops am having to shop online. What's the problem?

Well I've much broader feet than most people.

For instance, even though my brother (fcallagy) is only 1 size bigger in ordinary shoes, my feet are considerably wider than his (so only certain brands of shoe will work for me). This is why I've not quite felt at home when trying his Cressi Garas and have held back from buying even though people say they're a great all-round fin.

So those custom C4 pockets sound like a good option - never heard of such an option before. Would you perhaps have a link handy?

Or would others be aware of an off-the-shelf long-fin that might be better for the broad footed amongst us?

If your feet are really wide, think about Imersion footpockets. They are the only ones large enough for me to wear 7 mm socks with. I also really like the rubber compound they use.
I just got a pair of Imersion Carbon Essentials, and they worked great in 0.5-1.5C water.

Thanks for that suggestion hteas - and apologies for the delay in acknowledging it.

Carbons are way outside my budget (as are those anatomic shoes you mention blankets). But yeah some online reading since does suggest the Immersion footpocket is wider than most.

So maybe if I can source some with a reasonably cheap blade to insert, it'll give me what I need.

Hi FearUisce ;-)

I don't believe the C4 anatomic shoes are so expensive compared to other models... you can save money buying the C4 wahoo model with plastic blades including anatomic shoes for less than 120€...

wahoo are really a good pairs of fins and in the future you can upgrade it simply changing with the blades you prefer..

Thanks Andrea

Yes compared to other options maybe what you're suggesting is a good deal. But I was thinking more of what my wallet can cope with these days!

Nevertheless I've now got a price list from C4 Carbon The Wahoo 09 Green would set me back €150 plus postage. Yet that same amount of cash could see me opening a box from Scubastore that contained an Omer or Immersion long fin (brands which I've read are better for wider feet). And I'd still have some change left over to buy a nice lunch with

You really think the Wahoo would be worth the extra spend?

Their design seems very unusual. I've not come across side rails along the fin before (or at least not as big anyhow). And there's also the protruding bit in the centre at the tip of the fin. Features that do not seem to be that common... which leaves me wondering just how suitable they might be for someone like myself who is in the early stages of development - and the often challenging Atlantic ocean.

Are they going to give me a stable movement in the water? Or will they leave me vulnerable to the tiniest problems with my stroke?

Appreciate your input and you sharing your experience It's a great help to a newbie like myself.

Sean, if you're down in West Cork anytime you're welcome to try my fins. I have Gara HFs which you don't want but I've also got Beauchats and some Specialfins with Pathos footpockets. The Pathos are wide for their length and may suit your feet but blades have to be glued into them so aren't easy to change.

Wow - thanks sunfish. If I'm ever down those parts, yes, I'll take you up on the offer. Much appreciated. And if you're ever up these parts looking for some dive sites, give us a shout. I mightn't know exactly where to get the fish... but one of our gang goes fishing regularly and I'm sure he'd give some pointers.

You really think the Wahoo would be worth the extra spend?

Usually I'm the last person who would buy the expensive stuff but in this case I believe it's worth to spend 50€ more(if you look well i think you will find some good advertise for these fins, 110-120€ brand new..)

These footpockets I believe are the best on the market. I've never heard someone trying them who don't fit or like it

The blades are ok compared to cressi and other plastic stuff not the hardest one nor the softer, simply less responsive then the carbon one(which iin any case you can buy separately later)

I hope you'll find someone who can let you try them (is always better to try something on before buying it, for any kind of object, in particular fins)

You'll feel the way these fins make you move and you'll find (I hope) a great help to improve your style, performance and pleasure. (footpockets + water rails + the shape of the blades make it possible)

ciao,andrea

p.s. Personally I use an old pair of Cressi 2000 HF(costing more or less 70€). I've tried the wahoo and many other C4 model cause a frined is a developer of the product. I'll buy them as soon as I will need to change my stuff (which actually I love not only cause I'm used with it but also cause I'm also a little bit fond/attached to them)

Yes that would be ideal. But the freediving community is so small in Ireland that it's unlikely (however I am open to the possibility of miracles!)

Sounds good. Especially the 'pleasure' bit!

Any chance your friend needs them tested in cold Irish sea water?! ;-)
