Description:
We are currently welcoming applications for the position of Field Scientist to oversee our marine conservation research programme from May 2009.

Period: Minimum 9 Months

Location: Andavadoaka, south west Madagascar

Responsibilities: This position is voluntary and based at our research site in south west Madagascar. The role of the field scientist involves planning, directing and overseeing all marine, coastal and socio-economic research carried out on site. The role involves working closely with the Project Co-ordinator to initiate and develop research areas, as well as responsibility for collection and collation of data and the analysis and reporting of research results.
Field Scientists are also responsible for the development and implementation of the research training programme, teaching and providing assistance to our research volunteers during the comprehensive marine science training periods at the beginning of each volunteer expedition, and working closely with other staff members to disseminate research results and information to relevant parties.
Additional duties are shared by all site staff and include support in the day to day running of the project, endorsement of site rules and regulations, and regular communication with research staff in London.

Additional Qualifications:
- Post graduate qualification in Marine ecology, Conservation or other related subject
- Good IT skills
- Excellent report writing and analytical skills
- The ability to multi-task between ecological and socio-economic roles.
- Experience of training and teaching, groups and/or individuals
- PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent)
- Good level of spoken French
- Experience of field research on coral reefs and related habitats, as well as, of living and working in remote tropical environments (desirable)
