Hello to all,

I am in the process of buying a Dolphin Carbon from Special Fins and would like an opinion on toughness.

I have the options of soft, medium, hard, or extra hard. Now I am 6'1" and very athletic but not so muscular on my legs. I plan to take it as deep as I possibly can, but also use the same mono for my pool training.

I am erring towards the hard. Any thoughts?

It matters how your dolphin technique is. To monofin properly it is basically all core muscles not your legs. Your legs should be straight no knee bend when you monofin. I would go softer over harder.

No idea about the Specialfins carbons, but you want a bit of stiffness for deeper dives as you need a bit of thrust on your turn at the bottom. Too stiff and you'll crucify your legs. I started out with a hybrid between a soft and a medium stiffness blade and this was a great fin for both pool and ocean.

Cheers,
Ben

Well I emailed the company about toughness, and they said due to my height, weight, fitness, and shoe size, I should go for a more stiffer fin that usual. Something between a medium and a hard.
