hey guys. i have my finis competitor monofin up for sale and a potential buyer asked me what stiffness the blade was and i hadnt even realized there were options in this particular monofin. but i see now that there are. so my question is are there ways to tell its stiffness perhaps by markings or other on this monifin?

I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure they are all medium, at least thats what most retailers in the states sell them in.
well if his says medium on the back that dosent explain mine because it says nothing. my particular monofin is pretty thin in the blade. if i shake it it makes a thunder sound like a peice of thin metal would. its also came with a sticker on it that said be careful around other swimmers because the blade is very sharp. it has black edge gaurds on it aswell.
if i had to pick a stiffness id say mines a "soft" just by looking at it and from the breif time spent swimming with it. but i cant make that assumption and send it to him and have him find out later its a medium.

Ok ive gotten to the bottom of the situation. i called finis myself and they told me they no longer make them in different stiffness options because the difference was so small that you couldnt even really tell so now they make them all the same stiffness wich im guessing would be similar to a medium stiffness probably.
I am the hopeful buyer of this monofin.
Unfortunately it appears Finis mounted the foot pockets in a skewed asymmetrical alignment to the blade. I imagine this could be partially rectified by trimming the tail of the blade to bring trailing end into closer alignment with foot pockets - this of course would have no correcting effect with the asymmetry that would remain at leading edges of fin. The fin blades intended flex axis (determined by the layup) would also remain slightly skewed.
Maybe Finis will be interested in correcting their defect.
Any experience and or other thoughts on this?
PS. While I am user of a prototype glass surf kayak by Dick Wold, refered to as “the big machine” seen here http://www.sonic.net/~woldski/kayak2004/Products.html and former user of a NorCal surf board I have very limited experience and crude capability with fiberglass repairs.

It's not likely a problem with the blade but finis doing a sloppy job gluing the pockets on. My first mono was the finis and I had to send the first one back for the same problem and luckily the second one they sent was glued right so I wouldnt mess with the blade, your best bet is removing and regluing the pockets but this is no easy task they are very difficult to pry off and then thier is the challenge of finding an appropriate glue.
Yeah Bronson is in the process of finding out if theyll replace the monofin but if they dont ill probably reset the foot pocket myself one way or another.
