I just wondered if anyone had any recommendations...

New to freediving and looking to get kitted out, I have quite a wide foot, not sure if anyone knows of a make/model that is more suited to a wider foot?

Or perhaps any UK stockists (I am Wiltshire based) where I could go and try them on before buying? Mail order is always going to be a bit hit and miss that they are wide enough unless I have tried them first.

Had the same trouble with Scuba fins initally and until I found a comfy pair I was always getting foot cramp across the top of my feet.

Any comments much appreciated!

from researching on the forums it sounds like OMER has wide foot pockets, ill be getting mine in on saturday so ill let you know how they fit.

I have wide and flat feet :blackeye I found that esclapez and picasso black teams fit best. Dunno where youll get to try them on though, perhaps try and post your question on one of the UK based threads. Good luck and let us know what you get.

Omer has a wide footpocket (too wide for me and I have a rather normal sized foot). I've never tried on the exclapez or picasso black but I have heard they are wider as well. Just don't go with any of the cressi fins as they are very narrow.

Thanks for the advice, I used the Omer ones on my AIDA course last weekend and they crippled me, first day I wore correct size and as they ended up really hurting second day I wore a pair that were too big which then werent too tight width wise but felt like they were flapping around on my feet due to the length of the foot pocket.

Thanks for the tip re the Cressi being ones to avoid, and I will do a bit of research into exclapez and picasso black to see if I can get hold of a pair to try on in the UK

I have fairly wide feet (US EE), and need 3-5 mm neoprene socks up here. I have found the Esclapez to be the best fit so far. if you do go with them, be aware that the greens are a much better flex for most divers, while most shops seem to carry the blacks, a much stiffer version.

sorry not to add too much, but OMER are the widest you'll find. I suspect you have a different problem.

Any idea what else the problem could be then?

I do have wide feet and due to this have to pick and choose shoes or else a too tight pair of shoes will cause the same thing. The fins were the correct size but even with socks on they bruised the top of my foot and also rubbed it, that itself I could live with but its the fact that if anything is too tight after a while it becomes painful. I wish I could change my feet but unfortunately not an option!

I did do a bit of googling on picasso's yesterday but failed to find a UK stockist, did find one but they didnt have my size and the stock they had got in they sell very little of and are not re-stocking, but he did give me some stockists in Spain which I could probably order from, just taking a chance to buy without trying.

Sporasub / H.Dessault and Omer Millenium footpockets are both fairly wide compared to Beuchat or Cressi which are more suitable for slim feet.

Cheers, ulysses

Hi kja

I went through the same process as you because I have wide feet. I wanted to try the fins before buying them.

I tried a pair of Cressi Garas in Brighouse. They were perfect for the length of the foot pocket but too tight across the toes. I tried the next size up at Redcar. They were too long but the still tight across the toes.

I then tried a pair of Picasso Green team. (I think they were the 2003 version of the Black team). They fitted perfectly and I can wear them for hours. They are still going strong. My fins are size 44-46.

The dealer was called Dave Bailey and he lives in Portsmouth. (he did in 2003 anyway) He sold the Picasso gear as a sideline from his home. I will see if I can find his number.

Good luck

Pete

Hi Pete.. thanks for that, would be great if you still do have his number. After reading the response on here and then googling the fins mentioned I had decided I wanted to try and get hold of a pair of Picasso team black, they seemed to have numerous mention re wide feet and also I read several good write ups on them. However I tried and failed to find a UK stockist, I have ordered a mask today, plus some socks from the deeperblue shop but they didnt have the picasso's, nearly went for the Omar Ice, but although I read plenty of good I also read some negative and decided I would try to see if I could find any picassos...

Hi Kate
I checked through some old receipts and found the number.

In 2003 they only cost £40. It was money well spent because they get used every weekend in Cornwall if the weather is good.

The number is
02392 618193

Pete, thanks for that, just spoken to him, he is checking to see if he can get me a pair and should let me know in a week or so.

Cheers
Kate

Holy crap for that price get him to send me a pair too!!! Haha actually I already have a pair but just got a pair of sporasub instincts and love em. Kate if you have can't get hold of a pair of picasso's over there I have a second hand pair I might be willing to part with, only problem is in Aus our stuff is more expensive and I paid for second hand what you would probably pay for new. let me know though, Black teams 44-46 lots of scratches but awesome fins still.

Thanks for the offer! But they would be too big for me, I am a UK 6 1/2, was a bit undecided what size to go for but think will try the 40-42 which hopefully will allow room for 5mm socks.

Hi Kate

You haven't got private messages enabled so I couldn't reply to your PM. I have sent an email instead.

I’ve got fairly wide feet and wear 5mm socks and the best I’ve found are the Dessault foot pockets, well they fit my feet fine anyway.
Hope you find a comfortable pair as there ain’t nothing worse than a tight foot pocket.
