Hello all,

Am completely new to DeeperBlue and registered so that I could hopefully get some advice on fins (this post may be in the wrong forum - apologies if so).

I want fins for swimming on the surface (a lot) up to 2 miles distance, and down to 3m - 5m (a bit). The fins are to allow me to swim these distances and get back to shore without fatigue and quickly if I need to.

I swim in Greece, warm water, no suit, socks - bare feet so I definitely want a footpocket not strap.

I do not have what I would call 'strong' legs.

Currently I use a pair of basic Beuchat fins, not fibreglass or carbon.

I am willing to pay up to £200.

I dont know of anything else to add that is relevant.

I hope this isnt too basic for a specialist site such as this. Any guidance will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Welcome Howardm.
Nothings too basic for db. :)
I'm sure someone with lots of fin knowledge will help you shortly.

If your going to be mainly on the surface and not diving very deep something like -mares volo race fins might be better than the traditional freediving fins- on a recent trip I had to borrow a pair for some diving where my monofin was not practical, I wore them barefoot for very long period with no fatigue at all, I use monos, c4 mustangs, and cressie garras and was pleasantly surprised by the volo race and usually recomend them to friends that want to try freediving but arent going to spend tons of time training to use monos or long fins

strangely, I thought about monofin right after I swam close to 5 km a day while I was in Thailand. Same thing - warm water, no suit or socks, swimming with some freediving at the end of one way trip and then swimming back. It was taking me over 40minutes one way and I thought about monofin that will hopefully get me there faster. My next trip to Thailand is coming in about 10 months and I got my monofin not long ago. I think I made the right choice. Proly not very practical for spearfishing but for just looking around I think it will do fine, sure takes some practice. My 2cents.

If you can find a pair of C4 80's, I think that they would be perfect for you. Mustang -81 are great but you'd have to double the budget. Either one is about as good as it gets for surface swimming and all you'll need for depth until you switch to a monofin.
