I was wondering if anyone here who has ordered the pathos footpockets from fins4u.com know which version they offer? I've been told there are 3 versions. On their site they refer to a soft (new) or standard footpockets.

I believe it's the last 2 generations of footpockets.

I've read that the "soft" ones are more pliable and if you are in between pathos sizes that the soft version will accommodate your foot better, particularly if your feet are wide or high on the top of the foot.

The 42 pathos' are a bit tight on my upper foot and I'm thinking of going with the soft version for a more comfortable fit, as I believe you should be able to wear bifins all-day. I just hope the power transfer is still similar, as I want a stiffer blade.

I plan on wearing a 2mm bootie and fat boy fin keepers.

I bought a pair of Pure Evolution fins with Pathos footpockets from Fins4U at the beginning of this year. I had a choice of blade stiffness, but I don't remember there being a choice of footpocket stiffness - so I guess mine must have been the Standard ones.

I think the fins are great - but when I first got them the footpockets were really tight across the top of my foot, verging on painful if I put my 3mm socks on. I solved the problem by wedging a couple of D-cell batteries far down into each pocket and leaving them in the airing cupboard for a week to stretch. They've fitted perfectly ever since and I love 'em.

If I were buying a pair today, I'd go for the soft footpockets.

Ian.

I own Pathos foot pockets (in soft version) but they don't fit my feet properly.
They are overall soft, but the front half is tight and stiff, causing uncomfortable pressure on my big toes. Does anyone have similar problem?

Sorry for the delay in replying..The two foot pockets we now offer are the soft and standard (hard) - The difference isnt massive. The foot pocket has a slightly softer compound and the bar across the front of the foot is a little softer. Also the tendons down the sides are a little softer. Personally i still use the standard foot pockets (uk size 9, 3mm sock size 44/46 foot pocket) and i find them perfect for me......hope this helps!

In addition to the D-cell method mentioned above, I've heard of spearfishermen having great success with a hair dryer (while wearing a sock - neoprene or otherwise) to get the front "load-transfering" bar across the front-top of the foot to take a custom mold of your foot, if you find them too tight.

We do something similar here in Canada for our ice hockey skates. :D

I've ordered a pair in standard stiffness pathos footpockets for an efficient energy transfer with the medium stiffness fins4u pure evolution carbon blades.

Will give my impressions when they arrive and I can put them through their paces.
