First band gun...

So I just picked up an omer cayman, its pretty cool, but confusing...

So I;ve never had a band gun before keep this in mind. When I load the shaft through the muzzle, do I just put it in back first and have the mono run parallel alongside the shaft and through the muzzle?

It just seems weird.

That's exactly right, just shove it into the trigger and hook the trailing loop over the line release

I'm assuming you have the closed muzzle on an Alum Cayman? If so, the the line comes of the shaft and up through the mussle and would cross over the spear and down the right side to the line release. On the Cayman handle is a small tab on the left near where the barrel meets the handle. The line trps under that tab too. The only think I did not like about that muzzle was that the line does not hold the shaft down as well ast the HF/Carbon muzzle does. So I bought a Hammerhead muzzle for my litle Cayman 55cm (as well as my 90cm HF).

I love the Cayman triger, and the H.H. Muzzle. I got to try that combo out on only one dive, but so far I really like the muzzle and I expect I'll love it on my 90cm too.

Like ILDiver said. Push the shaft through the muzzel and lock it into place. Flip the safety on, grab the loose mono that is haning out of the muzzel, and wrap it over the line release (right side near trigger). This should make the shooting line tight, but like you said the mono is running parallel to the shaft and in the way of the notches for your wishbones. Grab the mono where it crosses the notches on the shaft and flip it over the tab projecting from the left side of the gun where the barrel meets the handle.
This should make the gun set for loading the bands (only do this in water). I spelled it out the long way for you, but after a few times you will see that loading this gun is super easy and quick. The hardest part is threading the shaft into the muzzel. Good luck and let us know what you get.
