Was gonna but the
6' Travel Spearfishing Two-Piece Fiber Glass Pole
off Amazon for my next trop down to Cayman brac.

any body have any serious do's or dont's regarding this choice?

I'm guessing that price is an important factor in your decision, as those are quite inexpensive.

Mako makes an inexpensive alum 3-pc that might be more versatile. Also grab a lobster net, etc!

Cayman water is clear, so don't be afraid to go a bit longer - maybe even up to 8' for reef work and longer for blue water.

A foldspear is really handy for reefing, as you can wear it every time you go in the water just in case. Much more $$$ though.

I have a bit of experience with pole spear I have had a few but the latest one from Linghunt engineering is the best I have seen and used. I even thought of building one myself so inept were the designs which I looked at; admittedly I have not seen them all. I ordered the Linghunt B3020 and have given up the idea of building one, apnea addict and I have mulled over some design ideas but now that |I bought the Linghunt. I will say its the best I have seen and used so far, its balanced correctly it has a tight trajectory, its simple, rugged, light, a good finish and very well engineered. Its a 3 piece design which is what I use as I tend to travel all over and is very portable, I made a PVC sleeve to transport it.
Good luck

I've got a 2m/2pc annodised aluminium hand spear (5 prong). Anyone got any tips for me? The water where i go is from about 1m to 5m max.

I have found that twisting the rubber band a cpl of times when you are about to shoot gives it a more linear trajectory...

gusman,
Practice by shooting targets. I have used cans (don't leave them behind) and plastic bottles. Once you're comfortable you won't have to think when a shot suddenly presents itself.
hold it loaded during each dive.If you wait until you see a fish, you will probably spook it when you load
