Hi

I dive in a drysuit in the UK but hope in the future to be able to travel abroad to dive and I am looking buying my first BC and set of regs.

I didn't want to hijack the thread below but having looked at it one company no-one seems to have mentioned is Sherwood, does anyone have any experience of them?

I am looking for a reg that has a small, light second stage, is suitable for coldwater diving and that seems to be well rated and recomended by other divers. I thought I had settled on an Aqualung Legend Supreme but having gone into my local dive shop they are very keen on Scubapro and Sherwood for cold water diving. I was rather taken with the tiny second stage of the Sherwood and I know they are sold worldwide but I haven't heard much about them in the UK - any opinions?

Many Thanks

Sherwood makes an excellent rental regulator. This is because they are SO simple to rebuild on the spot and have a very simple, yet totally dry, first stage- which helps to keep it from freezing and getting gunked up in dirty water.

Having said that, they don't breath the greatest. I've owned a few and the breathing was acceptable- worked fine on air down to 60 meters, but my Apeks/ aqualung breathed better, deeper, than they did. They are still a fine regulator for your first set.

As far as a cold water reg goes Scuba Pro wouldn't be my first choice. I know people who dive them in cold water- but they aren't breathing air with them. Aqualung, Apeks, Mares, Dive Rite, Zeagle, and others make a nicer cold water reg. Add helium to your mix and any reg will be much less likely to freeze up on you.:)

If your going to do a lot of diving with that local shop you may want to get a brand that they carry. This way they can help you out on the dive site if it ever needs to be repaired. Dive shops, and instructors, can't be expected to carry spare H.P. seats for every single regualtor made, but they will most likely have spares for the models they rent/sell.

Check out DIVER magazine for their regulator reviews- much more honest reviews than what you find in the US diving mags.

Hi cat,

I know lot of time brand debates going on DB but, never wanna state any specific brand.. However, my opinion is regarding your question about Sherwood like that.....; My first dive center had them when I was working there,,and definitely never seen major problem during my working period..
So, my own regulator is maximus, and glad to have it.. Side egzos valves r great, no bubbles in front of your eyes at all.. And reasonable price also for cold water...Some certain time ( I don't remember exactly which time) the factory recalled all maximus coz of mistake..But, who cares mine wasn't in that category and so far so good..
As a result, in the market a lot of brands and a lot of opinions people has..So, whatever convenience for you that is the best one..
Cheers,,
Burak

Have plenty of experiance with Sherwood, they make great higher end Regs in addition to their rental gear line. For cold water go with the Blizzard reg, you cannot go wrong there. We sell these and they are great. PM me with any questions.
