Ok basically, Ive always fished (with a rod) But what an awesome feeling to actually stab the living daylights out of a fish whilst swimming next to it haha! To put it bluntly

Ok, So im gonna need to know how to start doing it from start to finish!

Whats the best thing for a beginner to use?

When i jump in the water and see a fish, do i just aim my spear and strike whilst keeping the spear in my hand?

Im basically a total newbie at this and need a complete run through.

Thanks

well most uk sopearfisherman use a speargun. this is a band or pneumatic powerd gun which fires a spear with line attached to it so when the spear is in the fish you pull it back to you. aa good one will cost around £60-£80. i see your in swansea so no the best viz but if you go up the coast from you closer to the worm it should be good enough this time of year. you'll be ok with a surf suit for now but later on you might want to invest in a proper spearfishing suit. for a first speargun i would recommend a 75cm speargun. this will be good for bass hunting around the rocks. you can pick up a beuchat mundial 750 on ebay for around £75 and they are good guns (i have one). you will of course need a mask and snorkel. spearfishing is not the sort of thing where you just jump in and go. it is very dangerous and you must check tides and weather and speal to locals about currents and rips before going in. a good tip is to always go in on a incoming tide. although this is no garuntee of safety. an instructor once told me "the only good thing about an incoming tide, if you havent checked currents or rips, is that it'll make it easier for them to find your body". on that happy note,
