Hi All,

As a treat for passing my SSI level 1 freediving course, with a CNF to 14.2m (feeble i know, but im extatic) i have decided to treat myself to a wetsuit, as i using a borrowed 'Cressi One' suit throughout the course.

Background. I am currently based in Couzmel, Mexico, but will be heading back to the UK in august for a good few months before returning here. Most of my diving in the UK will be pool based.

I have searched everywhere for info. about wetsuits, and am leaning towards a tri suit. From what i understand, they are better for pool work and for CNF (the feeling of CNF is AMAZING!!!). I have been looking at the Orca S4, and the Aqua Sphere Pursuit, they seem like good suits, and cheap (is there a reason for that). Which of these suits would be good/would they both be pointless for me? Im open to any suggestions.

I am 183cm and weigh ~70kg.

Thanks for any advice.

Dom

I can't help with tri-suits but it's very likely you'd get quite cold diving in the uk in a tri-suit, even in the summer. Not saying it's the wrong choice for you but thought i'd point out that for colder waters they're not usually warm enough..

Thanks simos,

The problem i have really is, its impossible to get a suit for all situations, ie. warm water here in cozumel, pool dynamics, and cold water diving in england. but since while im home, the vast majority of my apnea diving will be dynamic no fins, and then warm water diving here in Cozumel, ive half decided to skip a suit for super cold diving for the moment...

Edit, i have also found the Orca Equip for a reasonable price...any good?

trisuit for pool and tropics waters...

5mm custom suit (aqualand) for cold english waters, etc. These are inexpensive and good quality suits.

I understand the problem with using a tri suit for is that as they're not designed to be used under the water, but for surface swimming, is that you get quite a bit of flush through, to the point the suit is actually collecting water. This is why the Orca freedive suits (Free and Breathe) have an internal collar/vest arrangement to reduce the water capture and thus drag affect.
That said, I use an Orca S2 in the pool and am pretty happy with it, though I am aware of the flush and the suit filling up. Wearing a weight belt can also slow the captured from escaping down the legs when you stand up.

I would keep away from pure Tri suits for freediving, many have floatation panels, exactly what you don't want. The Orca TRN, Breathe and Free (in order of cost and coolness) all rock.
