The db staff are proud to present . . .
THE OMD FOM/FOY COMPETITION MAY 2012

This year the OMD FOM trophy will be a beautifully shaped wooden ray [as shown below], with the name of the winner engraved. These are hand-made by our very own spearo MIRROR [send him some rep!], with the kind help of venturesports/spearfishingstore.co.uk.

This years Fish of the MONTH competitions are generously sponsored by Apnea Jersey Spearfishing shop [A £25 voucher is offered to the winner each month!!!].

And this years Fish of the YEAR competition is sponsored by venturesports/spearfishingstore.co.uk with a prize of a site voucher/credit for a fantastic £175.

Furthermore, for those who are really keen, we will run a fun speccie hunt competition [no prizes for this one]; just enter the fom as usual, and your fish will be entered into the speccie hunt comp at the end of the year, more details below...

In this thread, please only post your entries for the FOM competition.

Comments can be posted here -F.O.M./F.O.Y. discussion thread for 2012

I cannot believe that there are not other posts, u must be saving them up?

I have a few fish to enter, mainly for the specimen comp, but I also have a nice plaice which could be an early candidate for FOM.

I would like to enter a 3lb sole for the specimen com, this was caught on a night dive, fantastic cystal vis, on the same night had several smaller sole and a few decent plaice, as well as a couple of small but tasty (and legal) turbot.

I would also like to enter a couple more for the specimen comp, not huge but OK fish, a 3lb 6oz pollack and a 2lb 1oz black bream, both caught in daylight, approx 10-12m (also caught my first bass of 2012 that day ).

I am also entering a 4lb 10oz plaice, which I would like to enter as a potential candidate for FOM .This is a decent fish for our area, so I am quite chuffed to catch it. It was caught on Sunday 13th May, in daylight, at Belcroute in our first Club Apnea social dive, I also had three dover sole, all caught in 8-10m.

Having seen a few decent bass over the last week, I finally caught one! Not the biggest I've seen this week, but a great start to 2012. This one is 7lb 5oz. There is nothing in the belly so if she had polished off a few sandeel or a spider, she could have made 8lb. Caught in daylight, in approx 11m. It was a great dive, vis was 7-8m. I saw plently of medium pollack, loads of school bass (1.5- 2.5lb) in shoals of 15 + . I made a consious decision to ignore the smaller fish in the hope that I wouldn't spook something bigger . Luckily, right at the end of the dive, I stumbled accross this one. It was with two others which were just slightly smaller, all tucked in under some coli. Hope to get a bigger one during the year but, just in case, I would like to enter this for the annual specimen comp.

A couple of bass from the day before yesterday. The lower one is a shade over 4lb and the top one is 2.5lb.

Not FOM contenders really, but nice fish and the larger bass is my bass entry for the specimen comp.
