It is sorry, but good to inform you guyz that there are restrictions now on some types of fish to catch in UAE the link posted down explains in Arabic i will try to explain as much as i can...

???????? ????? - ????? ??? ???? ??? 15 ????? ?? ??????? ?? ??? ?????

It is saying that DUBAI municipality prohibiting 15 types of fish not within the legal size these fish are:

1- Kanaad = King fish which is less than 40 cms long.
2- Hamoor = Grouper which is less than 45 cms long.
3- Shere = Snapper Which is less than 22 cms.
4- Shekhayle ==> Dunno this fish
5- Soly==> Dunno this fish
6- Faskar = Yellow spot bream
7- Jash Sal
8- Zorede which is less than 25 cms
9- Koffer red snapper
10- Farsh which is less than 24 cms

They are now applying a rule which is limiting the size of nets used for catching fish. Not to use nets with smaller holes and the ones made from nylon completely. The metal net (Gargor) not allowed to be used with smaller holes.

The first warning will be without fine the second one will be by taking smaller fish and 500 dhs fine, where the third warning will be by taking smaller fish and 1000 dhs fine. for fishermen it will be by taking the license from them for one week same will be applied for shops that sell those smaller size fish one week suspension of work.

I hope that someone help with the names of the fish i missed above or for any mistake there...

I dont see the size limit for the Koffer?
Dont think these size limits are unreasonable.

Actually i mentioned sizes as posted on emarat alyoum website dunno whats the size for koffer not mentioned... For me i said the same Hamour will be 45 cm!!! also for Shere... but some how you have limitation and later on more fish will be available because fish getting less using the smaller size net!!! As spearfisher i do not think this will be problem because we know which fish to catch, but one thing we can sure about it that coast gaurds will have all eyes open more than before :D So first thing i will do now is to get a fishing license or whatever available at least

Hi guys,

I think the ones where only the fish name are and no size means you are banned from fishing for this fish.....

What i am not happy about is the increase in coast gaurd checks this will cause....

Saleh, do you think they will accept a fishing licence when you do spear fishing?
Where do you get the licence.

Also does this new rules just count for Dubai or is it all UAE?

Hi Anton,

So far i am not sure about anything because it is a fresh news but the thing i am sure is that this rule was issued by DUBAI municipality so it counts in DUBAI so far but dunno if other emirates will go for the same... About the license one spero mentioned here before about that but do not remember that post but search in UAE area posts you will find something...

I have applied for the licence in July... since I am waiting...

I have checked several times on the Dubai Municipality website... Status: under verification... for the last 2 months.
