Fish Stringer..?

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
i use both a stiff wire safety pin style stringer and a wire one that has a pin that pushes into a piece of tubing from a polespear on my belt. both work well. sometimes i think the stiff one gets hung up on some kelp that the flexible one would not.

Well Iwouldn't like to loose a kidney to a shark so we don't have fish off our side. We normally have the gun a stainless stringer then the floaltline then the float. So when one shoots a fish we string it onto the floatline. Like this.

I too like the speed stringer like Ron and Marwan both posted about. From what I hear, a lot of Gulf divers carry their fish with them like settingsteel described.

I used to put a steel hoop stringer on my float, but with the shooting line, floatline and the fish, it got to be a pain swimming back to the float and dealing with it. The speed stringer works great. I got mine from Florida Freedivers. Mike did not have them on his site, I called and talked to him.

I personally don't use stringers because of taxmen bullies here in Texas but on ebay there is a nice hawaiin style for sale about $5 + shipping out of hawaii. Good luck.

Haha. the taxmen are a b*tch. put the fish in the boat and no taxmen, no bites. if too far from the boat, put on a float and poke the taxmen when they show up. in the gulf, the prize better be away from you or you might become a statistic or find out that your prize is soley for the taxman. Good point agbiv.

speed stringer by rob allen and float
I use a regular vinyl covered Rob Allen float stringer. It's bigger and tougher than typical european models, to handle the bigger African fish no doubt. Good value too. I like it very much. The spike is better than a knife or spear tip for dispatching.

I recently got an Omer mono belt stringer - I like this too, simple and inexpensive. It will take some time for me to get used to it (I often forget to use it!). The spike is much smaller than the RA, which is good for belt use, as you don't want to spike yourself & use the wedged line to keep fish on, rather than the T-bar; not sure if it would be big enough to use as an iki spike though, TBD.

Or you could get something like this.

Hey Ron,
those are pretty neat. i personally wouldnt need one unless i am really far from the boat, but that rarely happens.

Well...is there a larger size because most of the fish I shoot are twice as big...(big fat lie):t. Seriously, are these float/keepers homemade? And Spearstudtx, friends don't let friends post drunk. :naughtyroflWe'll have to sample Dos XX so's we can be "the most interesting guys in the world" in two weeks.

Well most of the time these get used in competitions over the summer where each team will have roughly about 12 fish. And if a diver shoots a kingfish then that can take up some space.

Still a good alternative. Relatively new to me, i like the concept though. Yeah, kingfish, AJ's and big grouper would make this obsolete. A shorefisherman's dream, but a gulf fisherman's accesory. You definitely solved a problem in the spearfishing community.
agbiv - we will talk about my posts (annebriated) next monday:). hopefully over a stringer full of fish and a bar full of beautiful women:friday.

Good thing wifey doesn't read posts...but yeah. :fridayrofl. We'll nail down transportation closer to date.

I use a stringer like this. A clip on one end attaches to a loop of mono on a weight, and the other end sticks into a piece of tubing attached to another loop of mono.

Don't be confused by the Carter inflatable float in the middle of the belt. That is a separate subject.

Cool set up but that would change me from Spearo to taxman bait off TX!:t

I got some copper tubing laying around, drilled a small hole through half of it right in the middle, threaded some heavy mono on it, crimped it shut and then put a blunt tip on one end. Works great (unless you're buddies dad tries to string a fish on it and bends the copper tubing 90 degrees... grrr...).

I understand, but I really don't swim around with fish on it. Our white sharks are more likely to ignore the fish and go for us, but big sea lions have been known to grab fish and drag a freediver down. One guy said he hit 70 feet before he got it to turn loose, and it didn't give him a chance to take a deep breath.

I take every fish I shoot right back to the boat. If I string it at all, its simply to free up both hands to mess with kelp, gun, shooting line, etc.

Yep best choice in most circumstances
