Hi all,

Has anyone used a fitness training band such as fitbit surge as a heart rate monitor? I'm interested to see how my heart rate behaves when training in the pool and diving. I see that the fitbit Surge is waterproof up to 50m deep but not recommended for swimming due to force of arm hitting water.. not a problem for freediving tho ;)

I think what you are looking for may be a waterproof fitness tracker, they can not only measure heart rate but also analyze your movements and provide you with some improved solutions. There is a good waterproof fitness tracker brand, you can always find the right one for you.

My buddy has an AppleWatch 4 - great for pool work, but does not have a depth gauge. It does measure his heart rate.

To my knowledge there is no sports watch heart rate monitor that works underwater. I have heard of a freedive computer that does it. I use my wife's tom tom running GPS watch for all sorts of heart rate games, mainly dry apnea and relaxation (how low can you go). I never managed to get a heart rate reading in or under water though.
