Flasher !!

I have finally decided to do my own flasher (I am not dumb to pay for such stuff). Here you see my first prototype.

So, whatcha’ thinkin’ mates?

(Blah…Blah…Blah):

I will hook about 5 of them on my float line at about +2m (there will be weight on the 5 meter mark, so they all swim nicely in a line, and look like a school). I think this would grab some “attention” from European fish (Mallorca). I will hunt close to the shore (I am flexible, so maybe not); where lots of vegetation around, and some curios fish, so I don’t think that will be a problem.


This flasher has passed the “chemical test”. I have put it in a jar with all kids of acidic stuff which may damage the flashers upper layers, (Vinegar + Coke + NaCl). After 3 full days, it was see-through BUT still flashed on the sun.
My conclusion is that it will outstand corrosion by salt water.

I also had the chance to test its "hydrodinamics" in the bath tub... just great looks like a small inocent fish, FLASHES,wims correctly! And I had sun glasses while making it... becuase ... !!IT FLASHES!!
What did I do?

Well, this is obvious:

• shinny plastic “Present paper”
• Line (I will use a very thin fishing line, this is only a model)
• Paper-clip and glue (so it stick and will never go off)

Looks GREAT!!!!

Try adding a plastic squid at the bottom, so that its covers the weight you will be using. Buy the BRIGHTEST colour squid you can get at your local tackle shop. Don't bother with the fancy plastic squids, simply buy the cheapest ones.

Another worth-while addition is anything that makes a noise under water. Some fishing lures have rattles inside them. Normally just a couple of ball bearings.

Thank you! I will defently add some shiny squids and test them. The squid is an easy prey for every fish, so I dont think they will just ingnore it!he..he...

i cheated and walked into walmart and bought a half dozen Flashers (Salmon Dodgers). rig them in line and tie to your float.

amazing results for Canad (Spanish Mack) in the Arabian Gulf. Talang Queenfish and Trevally were always hitting them too.

Nice flasher & some interesting ideas AlexanderXP.

I like the look of those Wallmart Opti-Flashers, never heard or seen them before but they do look similar to the blades on some of the RA flashers. I still think the RA flashers are works of art.

I wondered recently if a string or two of mackeral feathers, perhaps the holograhic ones with the luminous beads (and perhaps, thinking of Miles suggestion, a few Veals rattling beads) with the hooks cut off might make a cheap, simple flasher for the UK? Although a large bass or mullet attached to stringer (at the float or on the waste) certainly draws in bass and mullet sometimes. I've seen some indications that chum might also occasionally attract in large fish.

Iv tried chumming a lot in the uk and not shure it real works..except dumping a load of fishing in one place and getting the crabs and lobster...But they do take there sweet time getting to it.

But flashers in the uk are grate.. i always thought cricket was boring untill i saw one!!!

Ok the other kind i love to and found noise makers with the flasher works best. One time i had so many small pollack around me that i couldnt see a thing I was shaw a monster bass was gona come hoover them up but all i saw was a cloud of pollack!

Flashers look great! They work well in the Gulf (not oil soaked) to attract wahoo, mackeral, and Dorado (Mahi Mahi). Try a chumsicle too! take a 1 gallon plastic bucket (here they sell cheap ice cream in them), spray down with non-stick cooking spray, place a light line with small wieght on end in the middle; loop over stick placed across bucket to keep line stiaght up & down; tape down stick & line; fill bucket with shrimp shells or cheap bait shrimp, fish parts (don't use home blender to chop up parts as wife will get p*$$3d--I speak from experience); diced chicken livers--fill with water up to 2" from top. Water expands when freezing and the 2" keeps nasty slurry from overflowing at the end (again I speak from experience). pop into freezer (chest freezer works well). Keep frozen until trip. Lower overboard and tie lightly to cleat. The chumsicle will gradually melt (except where the water is **&^^%$#$ cold & I wouldn't be in it) and give off a steady stream of goodies for a long time. Sometimes they float and iff so add some expensive weights (like garden stones--BTW don't let wife catch you swiping them) prior to freezing. Add two at beginning of freeze and two 1.5 hours in (stays at top).

Grate trick. Up here in the North east they sell the same thing but with bunker the oily fish around.....It apparently used to make WD40!

Just dont get any on cloths or in you car!!!

I have an old and dedicated ice chest to carry a brace of chumsicles when heading out!
