Hi guys,

I have a question concerning staying afloat on the surface. I started to dive with a monofin about 4 months ago. Since then I am having a really hard time to completely relax on the surface... whenever I do so, the monofin which is negative would slowely pull me into a vertical position which makes breathing and relaxing harder.
I am using the waterway nemo wing, a 2mm wetsuit and 1kg weight.

I never had this problem with bifins, I dont have much experience when it comes to different models of monofins, but is the Nemo Wing more negatively bouyant than other fins?

Thanks for your help!!!

yes they are more negatively bouyant than some otherfins however there are many divers who have had this mono for open water use so it shouldnt worry you, there will be a solution.

i think if you pm some of the guys on here that have them, Fondueset or Jon i think they will no doubt have a solution. otherwise justy try and get the fin to wrest on the surface of the water and the surface area and surface tention will make things a little easier for me.

Use a 6mm suit- that's what Fondueset and I do. ;)

Maybe you could try moving the little weight you do use from a belt to a neck weight?

For depth dives you could try putting a pool noodle under your knees so you can rest while doing your breathup.

Thanks,

just got one of these pool noodles today which is great and even allows me to backfloat! I was thinking about a thicker suit as well, but here in the Maldives 6mm is definately not an option...
