I know about the breakaway system, But I want to try to attach a Riffe Float Line to the hole in the butt of my Riffe Competitor.

I doubt the clip the Riffe float line comes with fits in the hole, so what can I use to attach the floatline to my gun.

I want it to be pretty strong, because I'm going to be shooting dolphins, wahoos, etc.

Btw, I looked in the old threads and found some ideas, but maybe someone has found out a better way of doing this.

Just put a loop of mono or cable through the hole, and then clip the float line to it as shown in the photo. I know that isn't a Riffe, but it still works the same way.

I think you would be better off with a breakaway though.

What I do is take a piece of dyneema line sold for spearfishing applications, which is 500+ test and very abrasive resistant. Dyneema is very resistant to moisture and UV. Tie a loop of the line through the hole in the butt of a gun. Tie it with a double fisherman's knot. Once tied the more tension you put on it the tighter it will get. Then just use a long line clip or snap swivel clip to attach to the loop of dyneema. Here is a link on the knot
