Floaty feet

Hi All,
got my weighting spot on (exhale at the surface and float at nose level), and from a trim point of view i try to keep my weight belt on my hips. But when finning I've got floaty feet.

I'm currently using scuba fins, Mares Planas, do you feel these are the issue?

Drink a few beers before the dive, your legs will feel like from lead.
 
or cycle a lot, muscly legs sink more;), or maybe go deeper and let the suit compression sort you out;)

Seriously, you could try ankle weights, but they seem very cumbersome.
 
Make sure your ankles are flexible and toes are pointed.

If they aren't fully straight, they will drift upwards as you glide.

If your ankles aren't flexible, fins with an angle to the footpocket can help.
 
Annoy somebody in the mafia, they'll arrange some nice concrete boots.

I assume this is a problem with surface swimming. If not, listen to Azapa.Are your feet really floating, or are you kicking with really straight legs? If using straight legs, you are pushing ypur body up as you kick. You need to put some bend in your legs, so you are pushing the water back, not down.

Divers that do a lot of surface swimming usually have softer fins, because they work much better at pushing the water back. If it's really a problem, you might ahve to switch to a softer fin.
 
At what depths, and what suit are you wearing?

I'm wearing a 7mm Apnea Evolution. My floaty feet problem only occours at the surface (due to my newnest to the sport my depths are less than 5m and our viz at the moment is 1-2m). My up stroke is effective, but my down stroke just slaps on the surface.

G250, at the surface, put a good bend in your knees when you downstroke. Straighten your leg out from that position, essentially pushing the water straight back with your fin. Despite what scuba instructors tend to tell people about finning; there should be a bit of a bend even at depth. Your strokes should be slow and smooth, relaxed even, with power coming from the quads.
Also try the litttle ankle frogkick that cavedivers use sometimes.

I agree, frog kicking is great at the surface (I dived on the "darkside - DIR"), but its not very freedive style
