I'm a recent freediving/spearo enthusiast that needs some recommendation for spots to dive in Florida. I live in Miami and have had experience spearfishing (sling) and snorkeling the Florida Keys area but would like to venture more throughout Florida. I know Central Florida has a lot of springs, but have never gone. The biggest mission for me is being in south florida finding time on the water without access to a boat is near impossible, that I'm aware of.

So if anyone can recommend good spots anywhere in Florida it'll be greatly appreciated!

Also lmk if you need a diving buddy or if there is a group/club I can join.

Hey man! Yeah this reply is a little late. Anyway, I'll be down in the Miami/Keys area in Feb/March this coming spring. Would be absolutely interested in connecting with some forum members while down there for some nice spearing. I'm in Turkey until November and we have a long time to make any plans if you are interested. Anyway, just putting it out there mate. Peace

Hey man! Yeah this reply is a little late haha. I'll be down in the Miami/Keys area during Feb/March this year

The distance between mia the keys is about 140 miles, a little more specific on the location and you might get lucky.

I'm flexible. Me and a friend will be staying at hostels or camping at parks and will have plenty of cash for trip. We plan on heading up to the everglades for a few days, and then staying in one of the keys (hopefully keywest) and will at least visit Miami.

Thats the issue, you might be, but most people rarely go out past a few islands they live on. If you cant narrow it down a bit more then you might have a tough time.....Key West has a hostel, I was the manager of it years ago...its not going to be around much longer tho

If you walk down ALBERTA street (next to the hostel) and go straight to the ocean, about 2-300 yards off shore are quite a few coral heads. They run all the way along the island. I used to shore dive there all the time. Consider renting a kayak, adding a cooler and an anchor and go tear it up out there. Make sure you have the BIGGEST dive flag you can buy, maybe even two...

Thanks brother. Yeah my father is a captain for Yankee charters. I work for them up here in Mass and they have another branch down in keywest. My dad took me out to reef a few years ago with a small company boat... I'll have to ask him where that was. But my point is that I was hoping meet someone new to dive with, and I'd plan the trip around that... otherwise I'm fine with renting a kayak or even take open charter spots solo

thanks man

Pretty sure I fixed his Iphone a few years back. Ask him if he knows an Iphone Tony...i closed my store on duval street and opened a jet ski rental, but most people still remember the name :)

haha no kidding. My dad is Rob, but im pretty sure back in the keys he didnt captain but mated. I think we've got just one boat down there now but back in the day they had 3 so we can only guess at whos phones you fixed. thats funny Ill ask him.

I distinctively remember walking on that boat and picking up a broken Iphone. Might have been Rob. Small world huh

yeah well it seems like keywest is its own little world. My dads still talking about getting a place down there again... in which case I don't think I could pass up moving in with him. In the meantime he plans on taking some family down for a few weeks to an island that yankee does drop offs to... I think he said the owner of Yankee owns a place there. But I wanted to head down just by myself for a while.

Yeah man I'll check out your shop for sure - do you do kayak rentals too by chance
