I apologize for this being my second only post. Because we've had a vacant spot open up in the tournament calendar (we have 7+ tournaments in the calendar year here in west central Florida) Spearing Magazine (http://spearingmagazine.com/) has decided to run the Inaugural Spearing Magazine Polespear Open and we're attempting to spread the word as best we can due to the short notice.
General information:
When: Saturday, May 22nd, 2010
Where: Anclote River State Park, Tarpon Springs, FL. (location for Florida State Freedive Spearfishing Championship and the FSDA Florida Freedive Fall Classic, both directed by GR Tarr and Ritchie Zacker; ok yes, I'm name dropping :blackeye )
What is this you ask? It is a competition designed for the spearfishermen who wants to expand upon his or her spearfishing skills by challenging themselves to use and learn a more traditional spearfishing tool, the polespear.
Here's just some general information about the tournament.
Scuba and Freedive Divisions, must choose one. We have it open to scuba because it's a legal method of harvest here in Florida.
Gear: Polespear ONLY.
Aggregate tournament, 10 individual fish categories with one fish per category allowed to be weighed in.
Trophies will be award for the top three aggregate in each division.
1st place in each division will also take home a brand new GAT-KU Polespear (http://gat-ku.com/polespear) and brand new speargun from Spearfishing Specialties, respectively.
Largest Single Fish - Trophy and an Armor 99XL Offshore Gear Bag
Highest overall aggregate will also take home $100 cash.
$30 bucks for entry and that includes dinner and a 1-yr subscription to Spearing Magazine (http://spearingmagazine.com/)
Weigh-in is at Anclote River State Park, Tarpon Springs, Fl.
6.30 am Captain's meeting morning of the tournament and 5 pm weigh-in.
All registration will take place at the Captain's meeting.
I heard that Cameron Kirkconnell will be out of town so everyone has a chance to win.
Attached are the official rules and registration forms.
If you have any questions feel free to ask, I'll check back regularly.
Or feel free to email them to me at speargun at gmail dot com.
Respectfully,
Bryan Anderson
